Int'l honour for Rani

Bollywood celebrities have a huge fan following, not just in the country but abroad as well. Most actors get invited to prestigious festivals and events across the globe as they are recognised for their work and films by people. This time around, it was an extremely proud moment for actor Rani Mukerji when she was invited to New York for the Indian Day Parade celebrations on August 21.
Besides being invited to the parade, the actor was also given the honour of lighting up New York's Empire State Building on the same day. A source close to the actor revealed, "Rani was extremely proud to represent India at an event of the highest repute. She readily accepted the invitation and participated in the parade as the grand marshal. On the first day she participated in the parade that took the Madison Avenue route and also took a ride on a float. On the next day she was given the honour of ringing the Nasdaq bell."
Understandably Rani was super excited about her trip to the US and had already prepared much in advance. While she had a lot on her mind before she took off for the trip, she was always sure that she would dress up in something Indian for the parade. The source adds, "Rani was felicitated by the Indian federation in NYC. She wore a lovely salwar kameez by her favourite designer — Sabyasachi — for the parade and a gown for the other events." She was also overwhelmed by the support that she got in the US as over two lakh fans took part in the parade. She was overheard screaming, "I feel as if I'm in India today."
