Menswear isn't just about clothes anymore, as accessories now form a major part of their wardrobe

Increasingly, men prefer to keep up with the trends and it's these are not just restricted to clothing as accessories is fast becoming an important aspect for them. Internationally the fashion experts believe that the slow down in fashion trade can be overcome if men's accessories are given as much importance. After Hrs gives you lowdown on the changing phase in men's wear fashion.
Our desi menswear designers understand that to excel, just selling clothes won't do. Shoes, bags are on top of their agenda as well. Says fashion consultant Ramesh Menon, "Men are head over heels in love with belts, bags, bracelets besides the usual shoes and wallets. It is not just neckties and scarves, as the men's accessories market in US is around 10 billion dollars!" He further adds, "Unlike women where fancy footwear/accessories are easily accessible, the lack of such user-friendliness and variety in these market for men has seen most designers do their own line of accessories too. Designers like Arjun Khanna, Troy Costa, Sanchita Ajjampur, Rohit Bal, Rohit Kamra amongst a few who have their own line of accessories"
Designer Troy Costa who will be showcasing next week at the Men's week in Delhi says, "Shoes, bags and belts are the fundamental accessories for menswear. There is a huge market for the same but due to the unavailability of the right machinery and infrastructure, designers are not able to make a collection or create business from the same. Inspite of having a big market, the absence of corporate funding is the reason why designers cannot produce a complete product range. Also factories don't cater to sampling or smaller requirements."
Designer Sanchita Ajjampur echoes a similar feeling. She says, "Accessories for men's for men have been underrated for long. But now men and men's wear designers too are now willing to change that. There is a flourishing market for men's accessories now. Men want casual yet appealing bags, funky glasses, fedoras and foot wear. Menswear is no longer limited and we all must hail the change.
Menswear design houses are turning back time, moving away from the traditional jeans market to tailored apparel and jaunty old world expression. I guess sometimes one needs to look back, to take a step forward."
