Yeh Dharti Yeh Nadiya Yeh Raina Aur Tum (above), after a lukewarm start, has now become a must-watch for couch potatoes. And the young producer is ecstatic. “It's amazing, how a small show has caught on in such a big way and is setting new trends. After it went on air, fat and 40 has become sexy.
I'm told that men on the wrong side of 40 are so inspired by my lead character (Ram Kapoor) that they have stopped working out,“ says Ekta, who herself is religious about her daily jogs.
“Ram Kapoor (above right) is a wonderful actor and thanks to him, overweight men are no longer looked down upon.
They should be sending me bouquets.“
Ram and Saakshi (Tanwar) are set to tie the knot in the show this week, along with the other couple, Ram's sister Natasha and Saakshi's brother Karthik. It's widely believed that Natasha's character is modelled on Ekta herself. This idea, however, draws forth an outraged shriek, “Hey, I'm not a spoilt brat like Natasha. I'm a much loved person and not in a habit of throwing tantrums.“
Meanwhile, Ekta's just launched her new show, Parichay, and is now gearing up to get the Ragini MMS sequel rolling. “I'm eyeing a summer release for Ragini 2.
Get set to get spooked again,“ she warns.
The sequel of Once Upon A Time In Mumbai (2010) is also underway. Buzz is that after confirming Akshay Kumar, Ekta has also signed Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor. She refuses to comment on this: “Let us finish with the script first, then we will talk about the casting.“
And what about her horror movie Dayan, starring Emraan Hashmi and three leading ladies, one of whom is, reportedly, The Dirty Picture star Vidya Balan?
Ekta wags a threatening finger, “Not a word on Dayan.“
