Ahead of her proposed marriage with Kollywood Actor-cum-Director-cum Choreogrpaher Prabhu Deva, popular South Indian Actress Nayanthara has embraced Hinduism.

The actress, who shot into fame in the Tamil film Industry with her maiden flick "Ayya" and later played the lead role with Superstar Rajnikanth in the magnum opus "Chandramukhi", was born into an Orthodox Christian family and was named Diana Mariam Kurien.

Though a Christian by birth, Nayanthara used to visit several Hindu Temples whenever she found time. The talented actress formally embraced Hinduism on August seven at the Arya Samaj premises in the city. She got converted to Hinduism in the presence of highly qualified Hindu priests, amid chanting of vedic hymns.

She also underwent 'Suddha Parikaram,' a ritual which precedes conversion. Later, Nayan said she was very proud and happy to embrace Hinduism and becoming a Hindu. She said getting converted to Hinduism was purely a personal decision and was not thurst upon her.

''It (the conversion) is purely my personal decision based on my wish. There was no external compulsion or coercion,''she clarified. Reports had been doing rounds in in the media, especially among the film fraternity that Nayanthara's parents, having agreed to the marriage proposal, wanted Prabhu Deva to get converted to Christianity.

But, Prabhu Deva firmly put his foot down and said it was Nayan who would have to get converted to Hinduism in order to marry him. The marriage between Nayanthara and Prabhu Deva was expected by the end of this month or early next month, sources in the film industry said.

Prabhu Deva was granted divorce last month by a Family Court paving the way for his separation from his wife Ramalat, who moved the court challenging Prabhu Deva's reported marriage with Nayanthara. Ramlat was a Muslim by birth but embraced Hinduism and changed her name to Latha to marry Prabhu Deva 15 years back.

Later, he developed a liking for Nayanthara and once their love affair came out in the open, both decided to enter into a wedlock.
