Why This Kolaveri Di Full Song Promo Video in HD

By now Kolaveri Di must register somewhere in your consciousness — no? If you haven’t heard the tune on the radio or on the net, you must at least have read about how it has caught the imagination of the country at present, such that it has arguably become the first regional song to be played on radio channels nationwide. You could blame it on the power of the net. Or then blame it on restless audiences hungry for the next big thing in popular culture. But the answer to its popularity might be less obvious than a video gone viral or the lure of novelty.
Could it be that audiences, fed up of daily complexities around, just want some time off? The song in many ways allows for that — it is simple, some would call it nonsensical. The singer, Tamil actor Dhanush, said he made it up as he went along — perhaps therein lies its irresistible charm. Born of the genius of the impromptu (though it speaks of heartbreak) its basis is joy. The video shows a smiling Dhanush, clearly enjoying himself, and how often do we get to delight in such simplicity, tunes that show the singer and his team having fun, moving to the rhythm, celebrating the incredible lightness of being? There is much to be said for rhymes that make one laugh, Dr Seuss became very popular for his seemingly nonsense verses in books, which actually are brilliant as learning devices for little children. Simply put, Kolaveri Di makes people smile. And in an environment pulling us down daily with its depressing updates, that might be the secret behind its stunning success.
Whilst India is celebrating quirky originality, so is the world of global fashion. Christian Louboutin’s ‘Alex’ lion paw pumps are all the rage among celebutantes, dubbed ‘outrageous’, but nevertheless being embraced enthusiastically. If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, think stilettos made to look like Big Cat paws, complete with black claw markings. Fashion’s all about seeking attention anyway, so for all our cougars and catty glamourettas, here’s a way to say ‘Miaaow’ without actually saying it! Plus indirectly/coincidentally supporting animals is always welcome, wotsay?
And whilst on the topic of things that make you go ‘Awww’, the Tintin offering in movie halls is certainly doing its bit. I have always been a big fan of the comic series (though that naive view of journalism as a singularly noble profession of intrepid and upright souls I had, growing up, has since been corrected by reality) along with other favs like Asterix and the X-Men and have also seen a few of the animated Tintin series on big screen with my little one. Was gratified to note that the movie didn’t disappoint.
And finally, Akshay Kumar and John Abraham (most upbeat after the success of Force) are hoping audiences will go awww at their new release which hits the marquee this week. They’re playing male escorts — stripping to ensure that Lady Luck at least, smiles upon this one, in a first, now, for B-Town.
Enjoy Kolaveri di here

Few regional songs can boast of what Why this Kolaveri di has achieved - being the top grosser on every online music site. The official numbers are that it has already crossed over 2.3 million hits and still counting.
In this era of viral marketing where an idea or product spreads like a virus by word of mouth on the social networking sites, Kolaveri di just beat all the viral marketing concepts; it is close to spreading an epidemic online.
When you listen to the song on Youtube or on mp3skull, one cannot miss the minimalistic and stark approach of the singer and composer. It justifies the reports that say that the lyrics were written on a spur of the moment and the music was composed in 25 minutes flat.
The lyrics are ridiculously funny and the music is a monotone. Yet, it is a rage.
Indian kids across the world are latching onto it.
Given that, India is a young country with 35% of the population less than 28 years of age, anything that caters to the young tastes, is bound to go viral.
Statistics of whether 25% or 35% of the population is young can be debatable, but what is no longer debatable, is the fact that the likes and dislikes of the youth cannot be ignored. Every kid below the age of 20 has an opinion about Kolevari di, every minute there is an opinion being generated and circulated on the Facebook status bar about this song.
And it has only been a week since the song has been released. The attention the song has received on the social media is solely responsible for it being such a humungous hit. It is already being called the Youth Anthem.
This just released song is yet to feature in a film to be directed by Aishwarya, Rajnikant's daughter. And it is sung by her husband Dhanush.
As the son-in-law of Rajnikant, Dhanush is certainly on the right side of the viral marketing strategies. Not very long ago the entire nation was swept by the jokes circulating on Rajnikant, straight after the release of Robot. That was some viral marketing.
Why this Kolaveri di apparently means 'why so much rage, so much anger towards me, girl'. The rest of lyrics are fairly disjointed. "This song is for the soup boys, we don't have a choice" or "moon colour is white, night colour is black".
All told it is a simple, peppy and very hummable song. Since it is so repetitive, it is easy for everybody to sing along; maybe that is part of its charm. It is certainly worth a listen, if for nothing else, then to understand what appeals to teens. Google is full of information on Kolaveri di and Twitter is full of thumbs ups for the song. One of the sites worth visiting is the one that has the complete English translation of the song.
Simple, no frills, no fuss and clean fun. Maybe this is what today's teens are looking for. Maybe that is why Kolaveri di is so appealing. Or maybe Rajnikant rules, after all.

Anurag readied the stage for Freida

The director made every preparation for the debut show of director Michael Winterbottom's film Trishna at the film festival in Goa

Filmmakers Michael Winterbottom and Anurag Kashyap and actor Freida Pinto were busy making arrangements to premiere their film Trishna at the Goa film festival. Sources say that it was Anurag who made all the arrangements while Freida and Winterbottom were expected to make an appearance for it.
"Freida Pinto (as lead actor) and Anurag Kashyap's (as co-producer) were to attend the film's premiere at IFFI in Goa," says sources.
According to the statement, the film is the story of one woman whose life is destroyed by a combination of love and circumstances. The story is based on Thomas Hardy's classic novel Tess of the D'Urbervilles.
Set in contemporary Rajasthan, Trishna (played by Freida Pinto) meets a wealthy young British businessman Jay Singh (Riz Ahmed) who has come to India to work in his father's hotel business. After an accident destroys her father's Jeep, Trishna goes to work for Jay, and they fall in love. But despite their feelings for each other, they cannot escape the conflicting pressures of a rural society which is changing rapidly through industrialisation, urbanisation and, above all, education. Trishna's tragedy is that she is torn between the traditions of her family life and the dreams and ambitions that her education has given her.
The film premiered internationally at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on 9th September 2011and received rave reviews from critics and was appreciated by the audiences.

What's the b'day boy busy doing? Actor Arjun Rampal, whose birthday falls on the same date as the terror attacks has taken up a cause on Twitter

What's the b'day boy busy doing?

Actor Arjun Rampal, whose birthday falls on the same date as the terror attacks has taken up a cause on Twitter

Actor Arjun Rampal's turning a year older today and this year around, he has much to celebrate too. Hit films and a brand new TV show apart, he recently also successfully hosted the post-party of India's first Grand Prix event. But sources close to the actor reveal that while he will be celebrating the day today with family and friends, the fact that he happens to share his birth date with the 26/11 terror attacks never really goes out of his mind. "Arjun may not say it or admit to it, but the fact is that he is rather touchy about the day too. He makes it a point to pray for all the victims and thank God for keeping his family and loved ones safe," says the source.
The actor, has of late also been supporting the Gateway movement, and it is something that he feels rather strongly about too. The source adds, "Arjun would never speak up or take up an issue just for the heck of it. He would do it only if it's something that's really close to his heart. And anything to do with the terror attacks in Mumbai, or in fact in any part of the country is something that each one of us feels for. And Arjun too wholeheartedly supports the cause of rededicating the Gateway to the Indian jawans and the spirit of Indians." The actor even tweeted about it. "Support #People's Gateway movement to rededicate Gateway of India to d spirit of soldier in every Indian," he wrote on the micro-blogging site.
On the work front, the actor's currently busy working on his second production and also hosting his new show. But at present he's more excited about his role as a dad. "The past few months were very busy so he's making sure to spend time with his daughters, especially on his birthday," shares the source. In fact, when asked about his fave role, the actor had earlier said that he loves the role of being a dad the most. "My life revolves around my family. No matter how passionate I am about work, it will always be a part of my life, while my daughters are my life," he'd earlier said.
Amy's last photoshoot

Late pop princess Amy Winehouse's last album Lioness — Hidden Treasures will be launched on December 5. The Back to Black singer whose untimely demise in July this year left everyone shocked and grief-struck, had had a glamorous photo shoot done for her next album, and it was none other than singer Bryan Adams who clicked her. The singer, who became part of the notorious club 27 this year, had been known to do drugs for long, and was apparently beyond help. Close pal, singer Adams had said that he was numbed by the irreparable loss. Here are some of the pictures from the shoot:

Movie Review "Dam 999 "

This one's a 'dam'pner
There are films that are so bad that make you want to walk out during the interval. Well, this one's not one of them. On the contrary, this is a film that you can, well, walk into post the interval, as it's only after watching the last twenty minutes, that you are least likely to curse yourself for having spent the money on this 3D flick. If the annoying glasses you have to perch on your nose are not enough, you have a lost and confused hero, who manages to put you in the same state of mind rather quickly. The real hero here actually is the cinematography, and the special effects. The film gives you the feeling that while this department of filmmaking was the pampered one, the filmmaker meted out a rather step-motherly treatment to the rest of the film.
To begin with, the most intense dialogues make you laugh, while the ones meant to evoke laughter, make you yawn. The actors have no star presence and walk through their parts like amateur theatre enthusiasts at college level. Several scenes end abruptly, some unnecessary ones are retained, while others are rushed through. The story is flawed too, though it could've been made interesting, the depth in the emotional turmoil is missing.
The hero is caught between two women. One is his ex-wife who wants to enter his life again, while the other is his childhood sweetheart who he couldn't marry because the horoscopes won't match. To add to the 'horror'scope, each time the two come close, a disaster happens!
Now, this wife happens to be a rather interesting lady. A TV journalist, she even turns into a black cat commando-meets-GI Jane, as she rescues a damsel in distress and then saves the day! In the meanwhile, you have no clue what the hero is up to and why is here in the first place.
There's no doubt that the ongoing dam issue has been skimmed too, albeit on the surface, a rather sensitive issue with Tamil Nadu and those not clued into the politics will feel themselves at sea.
The only high point about the film is the climax sequence of the dam-breaking and the floods washing away the town. It reminds you of films like 2012, and though it doesn't live up to that technical brilliance, it is extremely well-done and deserve a mention. Among the star cast, Rajit does a good job. But, overall, it would be wise to stay indoors and be safe than sorry about getting caught in this flood!

'Accidents do happen' ... says actor Ronit Roy, as he talks about moving on post his mishap

'Accidents do happen'

... says actor Ronit Roy, as he talks about moving on post his mishap

TV and film actor Ronit Roy, who was recently arrested and released on bail on charges of rash driving, is trying to overcome his recent troubles by keeping his mind occupied with work at hand.
It may be recalled that on the morning of October 27, Ronit was on his way to work towards Kandivli, when he met with an accident. His car had rammed into another car, and injuring the four members of the family in it. Though Ronit was initially arrested under Indian Penal Code Section 279 (rash driving) and 338 (causing grievous injury endangering lives), he was later released on bail. Ronit, who kept mum throughout the incident, has finally spoken about it. "I didn't say much at that time and I would like to stick to that. The only thing that I will say is that accidents do happen," he says. The actor further clarifies that his driving license has not been confiscated. "No, I do have my driver's license with me. Most of the stories that have been circulated are false and incorrect," he adds.
Wanting to move on, the actor reveals that he is now keeping himself busy to forget about the unfortunate incident. "I just finished shooting Deepa Mehta's Midnight Children and I am currently busy with director Karan Johar's Student Of The Year," he says. Though the actor refused to divulge any details on Karan's project, he was all praise for Deepa. "She is a fabulous director. My role and the script are interesting too. The whole experience was magnificent and humbling," he added. "The icing on the cake was when I got to meet author Salman Rushdie, on whose book Deepa's film is based on, in Toronto at a dinner organised by Deepa."

No love lost! Amidst rumours of an apparent cold-war on the sets of their latest film, actor Ranbir Kapoor insists all is well between him and co-star Priyanka Chopra

No love lost!

Amidst rumours of an apparent cold-war on the sets of their latest film, actor Ranbir Kapoor insists all is well between him and co-star Priyanka Chopra

While most actors prefer not to work with their exes after a break-up, actor Ranbir Kapoor thinks otherwise. He is excitedly looking forward to working with actor Deepika Padukone in the love story that they have been paired together in. "Contrary to reports there is no awkwardness between us. We shared a wonderful relationship and we are still very much in touch. It is not like we stopped communicating. I am glad that we are working together," says Ranbir.
While the film with Deepika will begin sometime early next year, Ranbir who is just fresh off the success of Rockstar has begun shooting for Barfee with actor Priyanka Chopra. This is their second film together after Anjaana Anjaani and while rumour mills are rife with stories of the duo not getting along on the sets, Ranbir has a different story to tell. "They are just reports. We both are playing roles that are character driven, especially her, as she plays an autistic in the film. We can't be on backslapping terms because the character demands some kind of seriousness to it. But it is not like we keep away, we hang out a lot, we chat. Anjaana... was fairly easier. PC is amazing I have a lot of respect for her," he adds.
In the same breath, he continues to talk about his role in the film, "Barfee is a very happy film. It is the Indian version of Mr Bean, a romantic comedy set in the 70's. A lot of children will identify with it. I have grown up watching Mr Bean and I did a lot of homework as well. It is a very physically demanding role."
So which has been the most difficult role he has played on screen so far? "Until I did Rockstar, I thought Rocket Singh was most difficult, but Barfee is better and I hope Ayan's (director Ayan Mukerjee) film is even better. I just don't want to lose the spontaneity, mystery and eccentricity that I may have as an actor. I don't want to be content. I want to be like the labourer, constantly working. Not like the chairman, who just sits and orders around," he says.

Timing is everything! B-towners are increasingly announcing their marriages or engagement dates around the time of their movie releases

Timing is everything!

B-towners are increasingly announcing their marriages or engagement dates around the time of their movie releases

While getting hitched to a co-star is not a new thing, actors now want to time the announcement correctly too. Not so long ago, when two actors wanted to get hitched, they would do so irrespective of their film status, but now they make sure that their audience gets a wholesome 'couple' package experience.
A couple of years back, when actors Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan decided to break the news of their marriage to the world, they did so while filming for Mani Ratnam's Guru together. Shortly after that, they got married with the whole industry in full attendance. The film also went on to become a huge hit, garnering positive reviews for both the stars.
Recently, actors Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza announced to the world that they would be tying the knot soon. After years of dodging the question, Riteish finally admitted to the world that they are getting married in February 2012. The news has come out at a time when they're both currently shooting for Tere Naal Love Hogaya. The duo apparently are also planning to get married around the film releases.
Though announcing the wedding while doing a film together has its advantages, trade analyst Taran Adrash rules out the possibility of it being a publicity stunt. "I don't think they do it for publicity. At the end of the day, content is what matters. Not many would know that when Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh got married, their film Dhan Daulat released around that time. The film flopped, but their marriage was the talk of the town." However, an actor on the condition of anonymity says, "I don't know how much good publicity they get, because should the marriage go kaput like the film, then they're in for a lot of flak too. Relationships are fickle in nature, and if a marriage doesn't work out, it just becomes a public spectacle."
A veteran producer agrees that there's been a trend to announce a marriage around the time a film is releasing. "Taking a cue from Abhi and Ash, Lara Dutta and (tennis player) Mahesh Bhupathi announced their marriage while both were working on their home production Challo Dilli. Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor too announced that they'll get married after Agent Vinod releases in February 2012. It does make a difference when you announce a marriage while you are doing a film together. People start relating to you not only as a reel, but real life couple."
