How Imran Khan became famous

The carefully planned strategy of filing a PIL ensured maximum attention for the young actor

Actor Imran Khan doesn't need to be famous. But it seems Imran has forgotten about it, as the actor's filing of the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) protesting against the increased drinking age limit from 21 to 25 years (which is a good two months after he announced that he is going to do it) apparently turned out to be a carefully crafted exercise to get all the attention around his films releases.
Allegedly, the day before Imran was supposed to file the PIL, a call was made to select media, saying that Imran wants to speak on the issue. "Imran wanted to get maximum attention while filing the PIL and hence he spoke to the media a day before he was supposed to go to court. Just like the last time he again spoke about what he wants to do," says a source close to the actor.
After his media interviews were over, a text message was apparently sent by his publicists to the TV stations asking them to cover his visit to the court. The message even specifically pointed out the time when Imran was supposed to be in court. 'Imran Khan will be present at the Bombay High Court tomorrow to file the PIL against drinking age,' read the text message.
So, by the time Imran reached court, it was ensured that every channel was there to cover him. He was there to give all the bytes necessary for his PIL. But that's just not the only thing. Here's one more interesting bit. Imran was not the only one who filed the PIL. According to the court documents (a copy of which is with After Hrs) there is a co-petitioner along with Imran. "There is a 22-year-old guy called Vedant Malik (who in all probability is related to Imran's wife Avantika Malik), who is a co-applicant in the PIL. The PIL is as much his as it's Imran's. But it was only Imran who came in front of the media and spoke about the PIL. Imran had a meeting with his publicists to figure out on how he can get the mileage out of the issue. This is supposed to be his post release interview of his latest film, but again it got him the maximum mileage," the source adds.
