Shammi wanted to visit Kashmir before his death but he could not; his ashes were immersed in Jhelum

Shammi Kapoor couldn't disassociate himself from Kashmir even in his death, for the ashes of Kashmir's biggest brand ambassador were immersed in Jhelum symbolizing Shammi' love and connect with the valley. Shammi Kapoor, who died due to renal failure, had a special love for Kashmir and his biggest blockbusters were shot in Kashmir. And on Friday his dear ones gave a fittest tribute to the star when they immersed his ashes in Jhelum.http://www.sawf.org/Newsphotos/Bollywood/SharmilaShammiKashmirKiKali.jpg
"He was a son of Kashmir. He romanced Kashmir and made it very popular. Therefore we immersed his ashes in Jhelum in Kashmir", said Aditya Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor's son. Aditya also added that Shammi wanted to visit Kashmir before his death but he could not. "Therefore we came here after his death (as a mark of respect to the departed soul)", he said.http://www.outlookindia.com/images/shammi_kapoor_kashmir_ki_kali_20060626.jpg
Shammi's films showcasing Kashmir's beauty are still regarded as an asset to promote tourism. "Shammi Kapoor, Dal, Srinagar and Kashmir are synonymous with each other", said Shabana Azmi, bollywood actor and social activist.http://bollywood501.com/classic_m/shammi_kapoor/KashmirKiKali/KKK07.jpg
Azmi is a part of a group of Bollywood stars of yester-years who have arrived in Kashmir to participate in a three-day festival at a five star hotel which is celebrating its 100 years.
Asha Parekh, Shammi's co-star in many movies promised that she will tell Bollywood to start shooting in Kashmir again. "I will tell people in Mumbai to come to Kashmir for shooting", she said.
The stars also took a shikara ride in the famed Dal lake reviving the connect of Bollywood to Kashmir. "Shammi's song tum mujhe youn bula na payogee came true today when the stars came in hoards", said a Shammi fan as he watched the Bollywood stars.https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgH0XgH8egf3yPJyFnz5aVkThqC2GnaW0Ar6LpbkOZfwzvaeGwvb-dd9478Rk3DU1EHoLlDk4FN6sWUqyFepitd0fPXcbt3VdB5v1_LJLpUNI9RheApNEEebZboaN5tXHFUmCqijA-91cZE/s1600/Kashmir-Ki-Kali_16711.jpg
Kashmir which was favourite destination for film shooting through the sixties has been ignored after the onset of militancy in 1990. Though some films were shot in Kashmir amidst tight security, yet Bollywood could not re-forge the special connection in had with the valley.
