Naked ambition!

With India's first comedy festival taking place this weekend, get ready to roll over the floor laughing

India's first comedy festival is hitting b-town with the promise of stripping you to your funny bone! If Russell Peters' India trip was not enough to stir the pot of controversies, then wait and watch nine desi comedians raking up a lot of laughter and more among the mumbaikars. The Naked Comedy festival comes to town this weekend. Don't let the name of the event deceive you, as these comedians if not physically but will verbally dish out the naked truth in the funniest way possible.
Comedian Papa CJ jokes, "The event is going to be humorous. I will be dressed up like a snow white and you shall see me juggle seven dwarfs!" On a more serious note, rated the number one stand-up comedian in India, Papa CJ believes that it will be a fabulous evening; with different styles of comedy all coming together under one roof. "The magic lies in audience interaction, and that's what stand-up comedy is all about," he further adds.
The audience will be introduced to a new genre of comedy — sketch comedy. Theatre person Shaun Williams and his troop will perform a short comedy play. "Personally, I shied away from stand-up comedy. It's way more tough than sketch comedy. But, in sketch comedy your script has to be really good. And I hope everyone goes home getting their money's worth," says Shaun.

So, what's with the name? "It was a funny thing that was stuck in our head. We were raking our brains on how to describe humour. Humour has to be bare and raw, so what is better than terming it as naked comedy," Nevil Timbadia, of Bonobo, the festival organiser explains. Talking about the festival he says, "A lot of fun, a lot of comedians on the roll — primarily stand-up comedy, then sketch comedy groups with their acts and a whole lot more, is what one can expect here."
The purpose of the Naked Comedy festival is to showcase the stand-up routine of original Indian comedians to the audience. It will take place at St. Andrews auditorium, and will feature ten comedians. Hosted by Ashwin Mushran, professional actor and voice-over artiste based in Mumbai, the event will also icorporate a specially curated bazaar with a comedic twist, involving professional clowns and stilt walkers.
