DANNY BOYLE KEEPS AN EYE ON BOMBAY VELVET

The Hollywood filmmaker is in touch with Anurag Kashyap about the Ranbir -Anushka starrer; likely to visit Mumbai before the film starts

Danny Boyle has his hands full with the opening ceremony of the London Olympics that starts later this month. However, that hasn’t stopped the acclaimed director from keeping a close eye on Bombay Velvet. The Slumdog Millionaire (2008) director and Anurag Kashyap keep in touch “every day”.
“Yes, Danny and I are constantly in touch about the film. He goes through all the details like the script and dialogues as and when required. He is supporting us at each and every step,” says Anurag.
Boyle has been associated with Bombay Velvet right from the start, even when names like Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan were doing the rounds (for the cast). Later, he got busy with the James Franco-starrer 127 Hours (2010) while Anurag was working on his two-part film, Gangs Of Wasseypur.
“Although he got busy with 127 Hours, he was in the know about the film’s (Bombay Velvet’s) progress. Now, Danny is aware of everything from the casting of Ranbir and Anushka to the film’s schedule,” informs an insider.
“However, Bombay Velvet producers and Danny’s company are yet to decide in what capacity he is going to be officially associated with our film,” says Anurag, who is likely to start the film by March next year.
Boyle is also likely to visit India before Bombay Velvet goes on floors. “Once the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games is over, he will get into post-production of his next film, Trance, starring James McAvoy and Rosario Dawson. He is planning to release Trance around the beginning of 2013, but he will visit India to finalise details and flag off Bombay Velvet,” adds the insider.
The Ranbir-Anushka starrer is based on Mumbai Fables, a semi-fictional study of Bombay in the ’60s by historian Gyan Prakash. The film was supposed to start by the end of 2012 but has now been pushed to next year.
