Manish goes desi cool
There was no showstopper, but there were enough starry names in the front row. There was no gigantic set, but more than enough glitter and glamour at Manish Malhotra’s opening night show for Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013. “My collection is about going back to one’s roots, about being desi cool,” he said after showcasing his festive collection ‘Reflections’. High on colours like deep green, dark beige and mustard as well as new silhouettes, the collection featured lightweight, festive designs.“I’ve been influenced by Rajasthan and Kutch — the mirrorwork, intricate zari work and colour blocking. Kashmiri embroidery too is part of it. I’ve married sartorial heritage with the youth; it’s a culmination of yesterday and today.” Manish also introduced an alternative to the lehenga — the ghagra pant, a fun and stylish fusion between a sharara and a classic pant. He showcased a koti top too, inspired by the Rajasthani koti, which can be worn with saris or ghagras. Ethnic-style kurtas that can be worn with denims or pants were also spotted. The collection offers several options for a bride and her entourage for all functions. It will be available at his new store. He also wants to reinvent the luxury space with his collection, which aims at young buyers and their taste for beautiful creations with unique price points.
