Messi mania!
Actor Neha Dhupia was amongst the many football enthusiasts at Kolkata to see star player Lionel Messi, live in action!
So what if actor Ranbir Kapoor couldn't make it to Kolkata to watch Argentinian football star Lionel Messi live in action, actor Neha Dhupia was amongst the few celebrities present at the stadium to cheer for her favourite sportsman. Neha who is a football freak, decided to watch the friendly match between Argentina and Venezuela the minute she knew Messi was coming to India. She recently posted online that she would be attending the match in Kolkata and had also purchased the ticket well in advance.
It was the first time she was watching a football match live and the air, she says, was filled with excitement. Talking about her experience at the stadium she says, "It was fantastic to say the least. The stadium had the capacity to hold 80,000 fans and about 65,000 seats were occupied. It was tremendous to witness so many football crazy people in the stadium, cheering loudly in the spirit of the game. It was electrifying because very rarely does any other sport besides cricket get glorified in India. I went there like one amongst those so many fans and cheered for Messi, who is one of the greatest football players of all time."
Though she has been spotted with her Venezuelan boyfriend at a couple of events, she doesn't talk about him at all and says she wasn't there to support any single team. "I was there to support a good match. I was there as a football crazy fan just wanting to see a good match and what a match it was. The crowds went crazy each time Messi would strike the ball. It was a dream come true for me," she shares.
While we are talking about Messi, she says she couldn't get to meet the star football player, but she is more than happy with her first live match experience and plans to watch more matches. "This was my first match and I don't think I will be able to catch any of the UEFA Champions League matches, currently going on. Though I assure you that I am going to make it to the next World Cup. As for Messi, I didn't have the chance to personally meet him because I was too late to enter the stadium. By the time I came they were all done with their practice sessions. Some other time may be!" she smiles.
