The colour purple has always been branded as an intriguing one — a symbol of royalty, mystery and tranquillity. Fashion designers unanimously agree that purple is here to stay. Fashionistas vouch for it. Even our much loved celebs have been seen donning the colour often. Hence it does not need much to explain why and how purple is the favourite pick for most parties, be it birthday bashes, college or school events.
Akansha Saxena, a media professional, fondly remembers her last birthday party with purple as the theme. "The idea was to make it unusual and extraordinary so the theme was decided as purple. The decor and outfits had to be purple…we embellished the party hall with purple balloons." She adds, "There were theme dancing, party games like purple bublegum blowing contest, scavenger hunt for purple items, counting how many purple items you see in a movie, purple makeovers with purple eyeshadows, purple lipstick and much, much more." This, she says, made for a perfect night out to lounge with friends, dance and have the time of life! Keeping in sync with the mood and tone of the party the food included purple Blueberry cakes with purple sprinkles, icing on top, plum and grape pudding with purple cookies, purple punch, blueberry muffins and breads.
Wedding planner Gurleen Puri feels that purple and its several shades like lilac and lavender are certainly in for the season. "It makes for a good cocktail dress and is certainly better than black. It also helps hide flaws. Moreover, it suits the Indian skin tone well," she says.
And when dressing up for a purple party, how can you not paint yourself! There are ways aplenty to do so. "Paint your nails. Purple nails are hot and happening," says make-up artist Piyu Palkar. "Team it up with purple bags and hand clutches for an added effect." And to make it all the more dramatic, you can try violet eye shadow or a deep blue liner. Colour coordinate your footwears, or accessories like scarves and caps and you are ready for a purple party!
