Celebrating the Blues!
The annual Mahindra Blues Festival 2013 promises some stellar performances
Come February 2013 and you can do away with your blues with some soulful music at the Mahindra Blues Festival. Slated to take place on Feb 16 and 17 at the Mehboob Studio, Bandra, the festival holds a lot in store – from unparalleled performances to an instructive workshop on slide guitaring by leading Blues artiste Michael Messer, and a one-of-its-kind photo exhibition.
The line-up includes musicians/bands like The Family Band with Robert Randolph, Popa Chubby, Dana Fuchs Band, Big Band Blues and Jimmie Vaughan to name a few. The hour-long workshop by Michael Messer will have him talk about the history of slide guitar and teach some basic techniques of how to play Mississippi Delta and Chicago-style Blues slide guitar; while the photo exhibition Gibson through the Lens — curated by music photography archivist, Dave Brolan –— will showcase 77 fine art prints from 30 of the world’s most respected music photographers whose images captured legends with their Gibson Guitars.
“We are delighted that the Mahindra Blues Festival found a place for itself in Mumbai’s cultural calendar right from its inception,” says Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group. “Our customers in the Mississippi Delta are proud of their culture being celebrated in a country far away. Indian Blues bands are proud to share a platform with Blues legends and Mumbaikars are proud to host this unique festival at an unusual venue.”
