The Lux Cozi the Times of India Film Awards in Vancouver celebrated cinema and Indo-Canadian culture in equal measure

Indian cinema can bridge distances and British Columbia witnessed that during the debut edition of Lux Cozi TOIFA. From April 4-6, Bollywood gathered in this first-ofits-kind international event in Vancouver to celebrate films, fashion and music, with the biggest names in attendance. Together, the city and its guests also toasted the potpourri of Indo-Canadian culture that Vancouver represents.
During the three days, the stars soaked in the flavour of the city, and the local British Columbian leaders jammed to filmi tunes. During the main awards night on April 6, BC premier Christy Clark came dressed in a blue suit, prompting Shah Rukh Khan to remark about her successful Bollywood entry! To add to that, Boman Irani, one of the hosts for the evening, invited BC’s Finance Minister Michael de Jong to
shake a leg on stage. The minister sportingly took up the challenge and got a roaring applause when he danced to a song from Rowdy Rathore, even aping Akshay Kumar’s moves from the number!
With 10 per cent of BC’s population of South Asian origin, Bollywood lovers came from as far as North America and Canada to meet heir favourite Indian stars. Over the three days, more than 38,000 people attended the event.
Incidentally, the BC Liberals party, headed by Christy Clark, which hosted the awards in April, contested for the general elections in May this year and registered a record win by a clear majority. An impressive performance after a spectacular show, we must say!
