B-Town beauties take to the half-sari
It seems that Deepika Padukone sets fashion trends in every film she does — from palazzo pants in Cocktail to nerdy glasses in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. The latest trend the Bangalore girl has brought back in vogue is the half sari, which she wore in Chennai Express. While South films have always had actresses wearing half-saris, the trend of B-town leading ladies wearing them has recently caught on. Interestingly, there has been a stylish mix of the South Indian garment with North Indian motifs and textures, giving it a chic, designer twist.
HALF-SARI STORY In South India, young girls wear half-saris (popularly known as langadavani) once they attain puberty until they get married. Only then do they get to wear saris.
