Kriti Sanon is one of the leading names of Bollywood, with a variety of massive films set to release within this year alone and the first one, 'Bachchhan Paandey', hit theatres Friday (March 18). 

The film is expected to bring back the charm of theatres as it seems to be a mass masala entertainer that will draw the audience to the big screens. 

Talking about 'Bachchhan Paandey' releasing on Holi, Kriti recently shared, "Cinemas are finally back after two years of the pandemic, getting the same butterflies in my stomach as always. I am so excited for the release of Bachchhan Paandey also because it's the first of my many releases to come this year! It is a full-on massy entertainer and I just hope people will have as much fun watching it as we all did, making it." 

The busy diva will be seen taking on the role of a director named Myra Devekar in the drama-comedy where she also reunites with her 'Housefull 4' co-star, Akshay Kumar. The chemistry between the two from their song, 'Meri Jaan Meri Jaan' had left the audience super excited.

 Anupam Kher's 'The Kashmir Files' enters 100 crore club on Holi

After earning 100 crores worldwide, 'The Kashmir Files' will cross the century in domestic markets today.

Vivek Agnihotri's 'The Kashmir Files' is rewriting history. The mid-range film that opened with a 3 crore Friday (domestic collection), ended up earning 100 crores worldwide. Yes, Anupam Kher's latest film is pulling crowds into cinemas, and it has shattered all the pre-assumed notions. The film has closed its first week by earning a whopping Rs 106.80 crores worldwide, which includes 97.30 crores from the domestic markets.

Apart from ground-breaking collections, the film has also seen a huge jump in screens as well. 'The Kashmir Files' made its debut at the box-office with 650+ screens, and in week 2, the film has taken around 4000 screens. This is what you call a historic achievement.

This week, Akshay Kumar's 'Bachchhan Paandey' was released with much fanfare, but the film's business is expected to suffer a minor hiccup due to 'The Kashmir Files.' The trend for Kher's film is not going down, and there is a certain section of the audience who will choose 'The Kashmir Files' over Kumar's film. 

Director Vivek Agnihotri recently shared an interesting post on his Twitter, revealing his family background and what actually inspired him to make ‘The Kashmir Files’. 

Posting a picture of his ancestral house, the filmmaker wrote, “This is our ancestral house where I grew up. We had nothing. Not even walls in our house. But my grandfather made us worship Saraswati and my father went on to become vice-chancellor and translated all Kalidas and Vedas. It’s because of Saraswati, I could make #TheKashmirFiles.”

Having a big-budget film such as 'Radhe Shyam' with superstar Prabhas headlining the project releasing days before 'The Kashmir Files' hit theatres, the latter still managed to outperform by playing high on the real-life stories it portrayed in the film. The audience's reaction at the theatres was intriguing and heart-touching. 

But while the traditions followed on Holi differ across India, several aspects of the celebration are common, with one being 'Gulal'.

India’s festival of colours, Holi is celebrated in several states across the country with great fervour across different tradition. The festival also marks the beginning of the harvest season. Across all four corners of the country, the festival is celebrated with the mantra of unity in diversity, where different ways of celebration are undertaken with the same enthusiasm. But while the traditions followed on Holi differ across India, several aspects of the celebration are common, with one being the dry Holi colour called ‘Gulal’ in Hindi.

People apply gulal on each other on Holi and follow it up with a loving embrace. Gulal is seen in the air and on the streets, painting them in rainbow. No wonder, that the quantities of Gulal produced to mark a festival being celebrated by crores would be unimaginable proportions.

So, how much Gulal does India consume on Holi?

Quantifying the Gulal produced on Holi in India is not an easy task. But one of the most recent estimates made by Assocham in 2016 stated that Over 5 lakh kilograms of Gulal is produced in India every year, with over 5,000 colour manufacturing units making the dry colour. Of this, the estimate stated, 2 lakh kg alone is used up by the state of Uttar Pradesh.

The city which produces the most gulal is Hathras, which also lies in UP. One of Hathras’ leading gulal manufacturers is Radha Kishan Color World, which is also known as the Cock Brand. Employing over 100 workers, the company alone produces around 2,000 tons of Gulal annually, as per a report from a leading media outlet last year.

Ravichandran Ashwin, who himself famously ran-out Jos Buttler via a 'Mankad' recently talked about the new MCC rules change and its impact.

Custodian of cricket laws, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), recently brought about revolutionary changes to the gentleman's game. One of the major changes was regarding bowlers inflicting run-out on non-striker batsmen, which in common terms is called 'Mankad'. 

Team India veteran Ravichan Ashwin, who himself famously 'Mankaded' Jos Buttler in the Indian Premier League (IPL) talked about the impact of the new rules. 

"Law 41.16 'running out the non-striker' has been moved from Law 41 (Unfair play) to Law 38 (Run out)," read a statement from the MCC, which meant, the much-maligned dismissal which was previously considered 'unfair' will now be considered as a run-out. 

Ashwin highlighted how the batter, who steps out before the bowler releases the ball is 'unfair' and how the extra inch a batsman tries to steal, could have an impact on a bowler's career. 

Speaking about the new laws in detail on his youtube channel, Ashwin stated, "They mentioned the run-out at the non-striker's end tried by the bowler under the 'unfair play' category. Non-striker leaving the crease early is the actual unfair play in this whole scenario, not the bowler running them out."

The spinner who recently surpassed former Indian skipper Kapil Dev to become India's second-highest wicket-taker further added, "Bowlers used to feel bad for doing this earlier wondering what our team batsmen will feel when we do that and what will the cricketing world think if we do that? So, thinking about these consequences, they used to not run them out."

Ashwin further added that bowlers shouldn't think twice before dismissing the batters who try to take a headstart. 

"My dear fellow bowlers, please understand. The extra step the non-striker is taking might end up destroying your entire career," he said. 

The 35-year-old continued, "If the non-striker ends up on strike because of that extra step he is taking, he might smash a six. Whereas, the current striker might have gotten out. If you take a wicket, you will grow in your career, whereas, if you are smashed for a six, your career might go downwards. So, the impact is huge."

"So, bowlers should not have any second thoughts on running the non-striker out is my opinion," he concluded. 

The newly released film The Kashmir Files has incited a political debate between the Centre and the opposition, who have conflicting opinions.

The newly-released movie ‘The Kashmir Files’ has attracted a lot of eyes in the past week, and the debate around the movie has now turned into a political row, with the Centre and the opposition having conflicting views about the film.

The Centre has openly appreciated the film, with many members of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) praising the cast and crew of The Kashmir Files. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met with the cast members of the film, saying that such movies “reveal the truth”.

While speaking at a BJP parliamentary meet, PM Modi had said, “People who always raise the flag of freedom of expression are restless. Instead of reviewing on facts, a campaign is being run to discredit it.”

Backing PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also praised the movie and its storyline, and wrote on Twitter, “The truth of the sacrifice, unbearable pain and struggle of Kashmiri Pandits who were forced to leave their home in their own country has come to the notice of the whole world through this film, which is a very commendable effort.”

As the Centre has actively been praising the movie, many governments of BJP-ruled states have decided to make the movie tax-free in the jurisdiction. Meanwhile, the opposition has been criticizing the Centre for “promoting and endorsing” the movie.

Surrounding the political controversy around the film, Congress leader Digvijay Singh accused the BJP of spreading hate by promoting this film and said that the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits happened when Congress was in the opposition.

Singh wrote on Twitter, “The exodus of Kashmiri Pandits happened when the Congress was in opposition. The Vishwanath Pratap Singh-led Janata Dal government was supported by the BJP. Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was the Home Minister. Jagmohan Ji was the Governor.”

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti also criticized the BJP and tweeted, “The manner in which GOI is aggressively promoting Kashmir Files & is weaponizing pain of Kashmiri Pandits makes their ill intention obvious. Instead of healing old wounds & creating a conducive atmosphere between the two communities, they are deliberately tearing them apart.”

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has also expressed his views on The Kashmir Files. As quoted by news agency PTI, Yadav said while talking to journalists, “If a film Kashmir Files is made, then at least, there should also be film 'Lakhimpur Files', where farmers were crushed under the wheels of a jeep.”

As the political debate surrounding the movie gets more and more intense, The Kashmir Files continues to make a significant dent in the box office, with its collection crossing the Rs 19 crore mark on Wednesday, the sixth day of its release.

Written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri and produced by Zee Studios, the film depicts the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley in the 1990s. It stars Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty, and Pallavi Joshi among others.
