Bollywood Item boys check in

Item boys check in

So what’s the fuss about Bollywood’s leading ladies being item girls? The leading men Bollywood are no less with all the latka jhatkas, the sexiness, bodyliscious moves and of course the male oomph. Be it the King Khan, Khiladi Kumar or the youngest hearthrob Ranbir Kapoor, they all are competing for the hottest item spot of BTown. Here’s a list of those
who sizzled on the screen.

SHAHID KAPOOR Phata Poster Nikhla Hero - Dhating Naach

Shahid is celebrating a fresh start with an outright comedy where he not only looks energetic, but his dance moves have already caught his fans' fancy. Dhating Naach (with Nargis Fakri) looks like the new dance anthem with this chocolate boy making it big on the dance floor.

RANBIR KAPOOR Besharam - Besharam

He can easily be called the most successful item boy of Bollywood. From Bachna Ae Haseeno to Chillar Party, Ghagra and now Besharam, Ranbir seems to be the biggest competition to the likes of Katrina, Kareena and Priyanka (in the ‘pelvic swaying’ department). And this is some achievement.

IMRAN KHAN Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara - Tayyab Ali

He admitted to having ‘cold feet’ just before shooting the song immortalized by Rishi Kapoor, but Imran sure nailed it. So, getting on the red ladder and openly confronting Tayyab Ali the ‘pyar ka dushman’ was cakewalk for Immy. A compliment from Rishi himself was icing on the cake.

HRITHIK ROSHAN Krissh 3 - Raghupati Raghav

When he dances, there’s only complete awe. Hrithik as an item boy is just what the doctor prescribes for your eyes. And if this Greek god is accompanied by Priyanka Chopra, who cares how the film is, the song itself will be worthy enough of your money.

SHAH RUKH KHAN Chennai Express - 1234 Get On The Dance Floor In Ishq Kameena, SRK jumped on the item boy bandwagon with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. In the mega blockbuster Chennai Express, SRK did a floorburning ‘hichik michik’ move in the 1234 number with southern siren Priyamani that left his fans asking for more.

BOX OFFICE REPORT: BOLLYWOOD IS MOST CERTAINLY IN THE MOOD FOR SEX COMEDIES

BOX OFFICE REPORT: BOLLYWOOD IS MOST CERTAINLY IN THE MOOD FOR SEX COMEDIES

REVENUE EARNED FROM INDIA THEATRICAL AFTER DEDUCTING TAX

What Ekta Kapoor attempted, Indra Kumar did a lot better. Ekta’s Kyaa Kool Hai Hum (2005) and its sequel — Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum (2012) — made risque content fairly acceptable.
However, Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria unabashedly upped the sex quotient in their Grand Masti and they even managed to pull off a box office winner. The adult comedy, starring Vivek Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani, got the fourth biggest opening of 2013. Made at a cost of 19 crore with another 12 crore spent on prints and advertising, Grand Masti looks to be a hit. The sex comedy is here to stay.
Vikram Bhatt’s Horror Story, which collected around 2.59 crore, may just manage to break even. Though it found no appreciation from the critics, it found some patronage among people who like horror genre. However, the Randeep Hooda-Naseeruddin Shah thriller John Day didn’t start well.
Of the last week’s releases, Zanjeer met with a disastrous fate. After the slow start, it crashed. Shuddh Desi Romance will be a winner. The film continued to find patronage
through the first week and second weekend. Chennai Express collected something to the tune of 208 crore in its entire run. And it now has a clear lead of around 5-odd crore over 3 Idiots, which makes CEthe No 1 box office earner of all times.

PARLIAMENT IS A SERVANT OF DEMOCRACY - Shekhar Kapur

PARLIAMENT IS A SERVANT OF DEMOCRACY

With the BJP having announced Narendra Modi as their Prime Ministerial candidate and Manmohan Singh having said that Rahul Gandhi would be his choice, we spoke to Shekhar Kapur about his view on the current political scenario. Excerpts:

“India was formed on the idea ‘Let’s get the British out.’ Today again, India needs an idea to hold it together. Independence brought together so many different cultures and languages in different states. It is interesting that Nehru fought and kept saying that if you break India into languages, there is no end to it. So may be what we need is a different idea to hold it together. For a long time, Bollywood held it together. Dev Anand was a star everywhere. Now, cricket holds it together. Business holds it together. 800 million cellphones will hold it together. It cannot be held together politically. I don't think we will see another strong central government due to coalition politics, the effect of which we are seeing — scams and each partner wanting his pound of flesh. We need to change our political system to adapt to the changing India. The population, at the time our constitution was written, was 350 million, 85% being agricultural and demographically older. At that time if you said that people will want to migrate to bigger cities and that young people will change the world and that the world itself
will change everyday with technology, no one would have believed you. So the point is that the system was not set up for 1.2 billion people with the youngest population of the world, a large part of which is urban. We are adding 12 million youth every year in the unemployment pool. An angry youth has to have a way of expressing it. Growth is not spreading in the way it should and is not as wide as it should be. I used to say to everybody you should fight from inside. But the fact is, it’s a club with membership rules. People get into the system and become a part of it. We are not inherently corrupt people. We just have such a system, with so much inertia in it, that only the corrupt can get through. We were born in a system that accepted feudality. This generation will not accept that. Parliament is a servant of democracy. We now need a new form of democracy that responds to India that is rejecting central control. We need to change the political system from inside — create a kind of Jan Lok Pal that sits above the political system, but not above democracy. Coalition partners will look for a central leader who is not strong. Yet the demand of the Indian democracy is that you need a strong central leader.”

Hollywood’s oldies just can’t stay without killing baddies

LOOK MAA, THAT’S GRANDPA!

Schwarzenegger has announced ‘he’ll be back’ in Terminator 5, at 66. Hollywood’s oldies just can’t stay without killing baddies

When Arnie’s muscled cyborg alter ego first uttered, “I’ll be back!” in the1984 Terminator, none of us in the audience could have guessed just how deadly serious he was!
At an age where most mortal men start complaining about ghutnon ka dard, 66-year-old Schwarzenegger has signed on to star in Terminator 5. Weirdly, that isn’t the only action project he’s going to be part of – he’ll also be seen in The Expendables 3 and King Conan. And if your reaction to the idea of Arnie battling it out in his 60s was, ‘thoda zyaada nahi ho gaya?’, think again. Because even more weirdly, he isn’t the first 66-year-old actor to have forgone retirement to fight wolves with his bare hands, run around shirtless with explosions in the background and pummel baddies as though all of this is a totally normal thing for sexagenarians to do! So much so, that Hollywood publications like Variety have even coined the term “geri-action” in tribute to these dudes.

AGE
67
SYLVESTER STALLONE >> LAST ACTION RELEASE: The Expendables 1 & 2, Bullet To The Head >> UPCOMING: The Expendables 3
After milking the Rocky cow for all its worth (with Rocky I to VI), Stallone is still not done with action. No siree! He continues to dabble with boxing in films like Grudge Match, besides other fast-paced projects like Bullet To The Head. The high-action Expendables series, which has grossed a combined $574 million at the global box office, also happens to be his brainchild, with Stallone having written, directed and acted in the movies. The next installment is out in 2014.

AGE
66
ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER >> LAST ACTION RELEASE: The
Expendables 1 & 2, The Last Stand
    >>
UPCOMING:
Terminator 5, The Expendables 3, King Conan
The most intriguing part of the reports confirming Arnie’s return to the series was a particular source saying, “Given his age, this could be the last time Arnie can say ‘I’ll be back’.” Judging by the heavily loaded ‘could be’ in the statement, it is not easy to rule out the possibility of the star giving it a go at 75, even.

AGE
58
BRUCE WILLIS
>> LAST ACTION RELEASE: Red 2, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Die Hard 5
At 58, the actor was a part of two 2013 action blockbusters. Besides that, Willis has managed to play the smart-mouthed, daredevil John McClane for 25 years straight and says he might hang up his boots soon. When he was asked if he’d ever stop, he’d said two years ago – “In the next few years, they could easily find a replacement for me or call the character someone else. But for me, I want to do one final Die Hard movie – Die Hard 6 – before finally hanging that white vest up for good. At the moment, I can run and I can fight on screen. But there will come a time when I no longer want to do that. That’s when I’ll
step away from the Die Hard films.”

AGE 59 JACKIE CHAN >> LAST ACTION RELEASE: CZ12
>> UPCOMING: Police Story 2013, Skiptrace

He caused a mini-uproar when he said while promoting CZ12 in 2013 that he’d finally retire from action. “This is my last action film. I’m not young anymore.” But his breakup with action was shortlived when he promptly posted, “I was shocked to read I was retiring from action movies. I’m not retiring from doing action films. What I meant is that I need to do less of life-risking stunts. After years of breaking so many bones,I need to take better care of my body so I can keep working.” He didn’t say ‘till when’ he planned to do so.

AGE 71 HARRISON FORD >> LAST ACTION RELEASE: The
Expendables >> UPCOMING: Expendables 3

How old is too old to kick alien butt? Ford would take offence to that question since he was doing it only two years ago alongside much younger Daniel Craig. He too will be
part of Stallone’s Expendables and says he’ll totally be up for another Indiana Jones (the 5th installment in the 30-year-old series) as long as “he doesn’t necessarily have to kick as much ass.”
