‘I cast SRK for his passion for films, not his stardom’
On Yash Chopra’s 80th birthday, the veteran filmmaker, at the behest of Shah Rukh Khan, reminisced his Bollywood journey spanning 60 years. When speaking about the director’s films in the past two decades, the actor asked the veteran about the common factor in his last four films. Though the actor was hinting about his association in those films, Chopra humoured him a bit before saying, “Shah Rukh.” He added that SRK never asked about the script, his role or his fee. “I cast him for his passion for films, and not his stardom,” he said. It was only when the actor asked when the veteran was making his next film with him, did Chopra reveal that his forthcoming film will be his last as a director. “I’ve always followed my heart and this time it says enough of direction,” replied the filmmaker, adding that he would now guide younger talent in various departments like acting, writing and directing.
