Neeraj Pandey’s Special 26, starring Akshay Kumar, is inspired by an incident in the 1980s

A FILM THAT’LL MAKE YOU THINK AND LAUGH

Neeraj Pandey’s Special 26, starring Akshay Kumar, is inspired by an incident in the 1980s, where a group of men, posing as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers, raided a jewellery showroom in Opera House, Mumbai. The film also has Anupam Kher, Manoj Bajpayee, Kajal Aggarwal, Jimmy Sheirgill
and Divya Dutta.
Right from the first trailer of the film to the promotional tours, everything reflected the look of the 80s. In fact, during the music launch, which was held at one of the landmark single-screen theatres in Mumbai, the actors arrived in cars popular during that time. The producers are also planning to launch a book by the same name that’ll give a more detailed view of the real-life incident.
Akshay, who plays Ajay Singh, the leader of the CBI team, feels Special 26 is one of the best decisions that he has made in the last 20 years of his career, both personally and professionally. He says, “It is a film that makes you think, laugh, calculate and ackn
owledge. For me, it is a film I am proud of, no matter what its destiny is. Let’s pray you all feel the same way.”
On his part, Neeraj says, “The complete surrender of my cast and crew to the vision that I had makes this film a special one for me.”
Special 26, presented by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and produced by Wide Frame Pictures and Friday Filmworks, releases today.
