Remembering Ustad Allarakha
Music luminaries from around the world, including Zakir Hussain, paid homage to tabla maestro Ustad Allarakha during a special commemorative evening, which has become an annual feature in Mumbai’s classical music calendar. The Grammy-nominated trio of Hussain (Ustad Allarakha’s son), Bela Fleck (banjo expert) and Edgar Myer (double bass maestro) also put together a performance called ‘Celebration’ during the latter part of the evening. Many other international and Indian artistes, including Rakesh Chaurasia, Taufiq Qureshi, Trilok Gurtu, Ranjit Barot and U Shrinivas performed. We also spotted Ashutosh Gowariker and Dolly Thakore in attendance.
