The news that actors Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor are being considered to play Lord Shiva on screen, in an adaptation of The Immortals of Meluha has generated much excitement amongst the junta. Web addicts can be seen playing casting agents on social networking sites.
While Hrithik seems to get the nod from them, the much debated topic is of the heroine — who among Bollywood’s heroines will step into the role of Shiva’s better half, Parvati? (For those in the dark, the character’s name in the book is Sati.)
Besides the usual suspects like actors Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Deepika Padukone as popular choices to play Parvati, the one name that’s come up as a surprise choice is actor Vidya Balan. She clearly seems to eclipse the other two. The suggestion of her name got nearly 100 approvals.
One of the comments on the web said, “Hrithik would do justice to the role of Shiva. Vidya as Sati would be great! No Priyanka Please! Sati is such an grounded, strong and fearless character, a strong actress like Vidya can do justice to the role.” Yet another one said, “Vidya Balan is perfect for the role of a goddess. Hrithik and Vidya is a fresh pair.” Clearly, her sensual act in The Dirty Picture has made no dent to her Indian beauty image.
The other interesting names that cropped up were actors Rani Mukerji and Kangana Ranaut to play Parvati.
