Gurlz, watch your make-up, your guy could be eyeing it too, as more men, globally, get in touch with their feminine sides

“He has his own set (make-up kit). He uses the girls’ ones now — they’re much better, as I’m sure you know. Every guy I’ve ever known has used my beauty products,” model-actor Elizabeth Hurley said in a recent interview, when asked about her current beau, cricketer Shane Warne’s penchant for using make-up since he started dating her. He’s often seen glistening in rouge, concealer, lipstick, eyeliner and a tweaked eyebrow.
In an age that celebrates metrosexuals, the trend from being particular about how nails or eyebrows look has now extended, to dabble in make-up. In what seems to be a move to get in touch with their feminine side, men are now indulging in make-up — like using eyeliners, lipstick, nail polish, fake tan, spot or blemish concealer and even, tweaking their eyebrows.
Sportsman David Beckham was the first man to be spotted sporting a light pink nail polish at the christening of Liz's baby in 2002. But it’s only recently that the trend has hit big time many hunks doing their own version of it — Prince Harry, sportsman Cristiano Ronaldo and singer Seal were spotted with painted talons. Comedic actor Russell Brand is also famous in terms of sporting nail polish as well as kohl. Joining him is Johnny Depp, who wore blue nails and kohl for one of his recent appearances on David Letterman’s show.
Back home, Bolly actor Prateik Babbar doesn’t shy away from wearing make-up or sporting black nail polishes and kohl. Says an amused writer Fahad Samar, “Men wearing make-up is not a new concept. Men with surmai in their eyes have been around for a long time, it is just that it takes a different tone in today’s times.”
Make-up artist Reema Sablok feels that the trend is only among the celebs. “Celebs apply eyeliners to add ruggedness to their character, and can carry it off,” she said.
As we’ve seen in the past, that it doesn’t take long for the junta to take up on a trend that Bolly celebs flaunt. So, girls do watch that make-up kit of yours!
