A love story with a numinous twist

Sony Entertainment Television’s new show, Anamika, revolves around two childhood friends — Jeet (Mudit Nayar) and Rano (Anniie Gill) — who are on the threshold of marriage. But before their dreams get fulfilled, Anamika, a witch, charms Jeet. Suddenly, Jeet and Rano find the foundation of their relationship shaken.
Anniie says, “I’ve heard many stories about buri nazar. As children, we have seen our elders shield us from black magic, etc. They would do a nazar utaro every time we fell ill or looked too pretty.” She adds,
“Sometimes, science has no explanation for these phenomena.” So, how would she react if she confronts a chudail in real life? Without a pause, Anniie says, “I’d probably burst out laughing.”
Says Mudit, “My character, Jeet, is the youngest son of the family and is pampered and loved by all. His father wants him to join the family business, while he aspires to be a boxer. Rano is his pillar of support. When the two families decide to get them married, strange things start happening.”
Does he believe in witches? “I believe in a higher power. If there is a positive power, there ought to be a negative one, too. I haven’t come across any such situation in real life and I thank God for it. I respect all power,” he says.

Anamika launches tonight and will air Monday to Friday at 8 pm on Sony Entertainment Television.
