Rolling Stones face £200,000 fine

The Rolling Stones are facing a £200,000 fine because their gig at London’s O2 on Sunday was 35 minutes too long. The veteran rockers — Sir Mick Jagger, Ronnie Wood, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts — were playing the first of their historic '50 and Counting' shows and were meant to finish at 10.30 pm. However, they defied local council rules and thrilled the 20,000-strong crowd by continuing to play encores until 11.05 pm, meaning they will face a huge fine. Their agent Bernard Doherty told a British tabloid: “It means a big fine — but the guys just do their thing. There wasn’t a janitor standing there, jangling his keys, saying. ‘I want to go home.’” However, the fine is unlikely to upset the the Brown Sugar hitmakers as they are set to net over £15 million from the five gigs they are playing. The group will play at The O2 again tomorrow, before heading to the US, playing at the Barclay Center, New York City, on Saturday December 8 and the Prudential Center, New Jersey, on December 13 and 15.
