No rift between Rahman and me: Sukhwinder
AR Rahman and Sukhwinder Singh’s association goes back a long way. However, the composer-singer duo hadn’t worked together for four years, giving rise to speculations about a possible rift. The last Rahman song that Sukhwinder sang was Jai Ho in Slumdog Millionaire.
But they recently came together for a live performance in Bhopal, putting all rumours to rest. “The rumours were baseless. Rahman was busy with other commitments, while I was busy with mine. And this prevented us from coming together again. But this time when he called me to be a part of his show in Bhopal, I agreed. Would we have done the show if there was a problem between us?” says Sukhwinder. The singer, who owes his success to the composer, adds, “It was only after Dil Se’s Chaiyya Chaiyya that I made an impact as a singer.”
Sukhwinder, who is glad about his current career graph, says, “I’m not in any race with other singers. I am happy where I am. I believe in doing my work honestly.” While he is getting to sing all kinds of songs — from Indian classical to romantic, Sufi to Bhangra — he’s also lending his voice to Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan.
