‘I am a control freak’
…says filmmaker Farah Khan on venturing into acting; also talks about directing actor Shah Rukh Khan again
Choreographer-turned-director Farah Khan is gearing up for her new adventure in life, her acting debut in Shirin Farhad Ki To Nikal Padi that is releasing soon. In spite of being a jack-of-all-trades, she believes that life has more to offer...
Shirin Farhad Ki To Nikal Padi, in which you make your acting debut is all set to release now...
Honestly speaking, right now I feel nothing. I guess I will get the butterflies just before the release of the film.
How was acting for a change?
More than anything, what affects you is the waiting period between the shots. When you are directing you are constantly busy. I’m a control freak. To give up all that was a shock to my system. Hats off to the directors who can act.
A choreographer, director, script writer and now actor. What’s next?
You know, it’s good to do new things. I was bored doing the same thing. I needed to try out something else, that’s why I wrote a script, directed films and now am acting. Plus, I am co-producing Happy New Year and Shrish’s (husband, director Shirish Kunder) Joker, which is releasing soon.
Your prodigy Geeta Kapoor will be choreographing the promotional song for Shirin…
I feel great, it’s like my life has come full circle. I wanted Geeta to do this particular song. But she was so busy with DID and now L’il Masters, that I had been postponing the shoot for a long time. She started working with me when she was around 16-17 years of age, and now she will choreograph my steps. She is like my right hand, so I can just sit back and relax.
Any plans of getting back to TV...
Nothing as of yet. The next couple of months will be super busy for me. First with the release of Joker, and then Happy New Year will go on the floors. So, till we finish shooting a major part of the film, I won’t have time. Then there is also Shrish’s Kick, which will start later this year. Furthermore, I really hope to spend more time with my kids. They are growing up now, this stage is very crucial for them.
You are back working with actor Shah Rukh Khan in Happy New Year...
It is a big thing for both of us. It was not something that was planned, it just happened. It seemed that the universe conspired for it to happen. In a strange way it took one unpleasant thing for all of us to come to our senses. In every family there are feuds, but I am glad that it has all turned out for the best.
