Saamy remake waits for Big B to get fit

Director Ravikumar says he’s unable to meet Amitabh Bachchan for story narration as the actor’s been unwell

It’s an open secret that actor Sanjay Dutt is going to star in the Hindi remake of the 2003 Tamil hit, Saamy, along with actors Prachi Desai and Prakash Raj. And although the film looks set to go on the floors with almost the entire cast and crew in place, the makers are still waiting for Amitabh Bachchan’s nod.

“Despite trying for a few weeks now, I haven’t been able to meet Mr Bachchan since he is unwell. I have no option but to wait,” says director KS Ravikumar. “I have written the role keeping him in mind, and no one else fits the bill so perfectly. I hope the meeting happens in the next two or three weeks.”
As a result, no shooting date has been decided yet. “Until we are sure about Mr Bachchan’s answer, we can’t put a fixed date as to when our film will kick off,” says Ravikumar, who makes his Bollywood debut with the film.
A few days ago, filmmaker Shirish Kunder had also stated that Big B “is not doing any major films right now and it may be because of his health.” Shirish too is not sure when his film, Common Man, will start rolling.
Contradictory reports suggest that Bachchan’s ill health hasn’t slowed him down. On Shirish’s Common Man, Bachchan had said, “Shirish and I met on a few occasions and he discussed the idea with me and I’ve approved it. When he wishes to start the film is now up to him. Only once we are on the sets can I say that I am ‘doing his film.’”
Coming back to the Saamy remake, Dutt is keeping a close eye on all the details of the film. “Yes, Sanjay is in the know about everything,” says Ravikumar, who has in the past directed Kamal Haasan in Dasavathaaram (2008) and will helm Rajinikanth’s Rana when it goes on the floors again. While Himesh Reshammiya is composing the music for the Saamy remake, Sajid-Farhad (of Golmaal fame) have written the dialogues.
