No plans to marry yet
Actor Isha Sharvani dismisses stories of her marriage with cricketer Zaheer Khan as fiction
Actor Isha Sharvani may be missing in action from the film circuit, but she is definitely following her heart. The actor who hasn’t done a film since filmmaker Zoya Akhtar’s Luck By Chance says, she’d rather not work than do mediocre films. “I love my job. I am very ambitious when it comes to good work. I don’t want to do 100 films. I want to do few, good, meaningful films that people remember 20 years down the line,” she says.
She hasn’t really taken the hardcore Bollywood commercial way and gotten involved in the number game, something that most heroines are vying to do. “Each person has the right to choose his or her career path. Since my growing up years, I have always done things my way, some right, some wrong, but it’s always been my way. I dropped out of school to train in dancing. At that time a lot of people asked me if I was mad. And what would I do if dancing didn’t work out as a career? But I have always been like this. I don’t live life with a back-up plan because when you have something to fall back on, you won’t give it your best shot,” says Isha.
The actor, who is an accomplished dancer, started learning at the age of 13 and has done several international shows since then. Currently, the actor is participating in a dance reality show, and when not working, chooses to live in Kerala. “It isn’t an easy choice to make, to live an isolated life for most part of the year in Kerala, especially after being in the competitive world of films. I spend time with my mother teaching Indian contemporary dance forms to kids there,” says Isha. Ask her if she has plans to open a branch in Mumbai, and she says, “Honestly, I have no business sense. I don’t understand finance at all. But sooner or later, I will start a branch in Mumbai. I would love to share my art.”
Much has been written about her alleged break-up with rumoured boyfriend, cricketer Zaheer Khan. Point it out to her, and she seems unfazed. “When I am in Kerala, I am cut off from all forms of communication so I don’t know what gets written about me. I am single and all talk of my marriage is a figment of imagination. I am not getting married anytime soon. I have no such plans,” says Isha. “In fact, I don’t believe in planning. I take each day as it comes because yesterday’s gone and no one can predict what’s going to happen tomorrow, so might as well live today to the fullest,” she smiles.
