Ranbir Kapoor takes over director’s chair

Also turns make-up man on the sets of impromptu promo shoot for Barfi!

He’d studied filmmaking at The Lee Strasberg Film Institute in New York before assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Black (2005). So it’s not surprising that Ranbir Kapoor’s directorial instincts came to the fore at a shoot for his upcoming film, Barfi!
Ranbir Kapoor shows off his make-up skills at the video shoot On Tuesday, after launching the promo of Anurag Basu’s film, Ranbir was supposed to fly to Argentina for a schedule of Ayan Mukerji’s Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. But suddenly, the Barfi! filmmakers decided to shoot a short video to drum up hype for the film on the Internet.

“Being a professional, Ranbir postponed his trip. And since a digital media agency, not Anurag (Basu), was handling the shoot, Ranbir turned director, makeup man and creative head for the project. Since he is the star of the film, he understands the character inside out. And given that Anurag wasn’t around, Ranbir took it upon himself to keep an eye on things,” says an insider close to the film, adding, “Everyone was amazed to see his natural eye for detail. In fact, his inputs in the make-up department also came in very handy.”
Shikha Kapur of Disney UTV, the producers of the film, confirms: “When we decided to create an online promotional video, we were excited to see Ranbir at his best. His inputs have helped create an interesting video.”
Set to release on September 14, the film will see Ranbir playing a deafmute boy while Priyanka Chopra will portray the role of a mentally-challenged girl.
