A WORLD RECORD FOR ENERGY CONSERVATION

A WORLD RECORD FOR ENERGY CONSERVATION

With a world record on their mind, more than 2000 Young Energy Savers (YES) came together to convey the message “Save Energy to Save Environment” in Andheri past weekend. And by the end of the day, they had managed to achieve their goal of entering the Guinness Book of World Records. YES is an initiative by Reliance Energy, the power distribution company of Reliance Infrastructure, which aims to spread the message of energy conservation through kids, as they have more power to influence adult behaviour, especially on topics like energy conservation. The initiative started in 2009 and it has been joined by 169 schools
and over 1,25,000 students since. This event was true to its DNA of spreading the message of energy conservation in a playful, interactive and interesting manner. The record was created by 308 kids for the “largest gathering of people dressed as trees”. More than 1,500 kids and their parents also participated in Runto-Save — a 4.5-km runathon. This was followed by a felicitation by Karisma Kapoor. RInfra senior executive VP RR Mehta said, “Energy conservation is the need of the hour. We believe in sustained efforts to educate people to conserve energy so as to minimise the impact on the environment. YES is one of the many such programmes undertaken by RInfra.” The company’s CEO
Lalit Jalan
added, “We’re delighted by the enthusiasm and support the kids and parents
gave us for the cause.” YES also has a strong presence in the social media space with more than 50,000 active fans and followers on Facebook.
