Mumbai gets set for Doomsday parties, in case the world ends on December 21 according to Mayan theories
As the clock ticks towards December 21, also known as Doomsday, a number of theories are floating around as to how the world will end. While some believe a planet will emerge and collide into earth, others think there’s a black hole in the universe that will end it all. Either way, instead of hiding, most people are celebrating ‘the end’ with parties across the city. F Lounge.Diner.Bar is commemorating the day by decorating the venue with images depicting earthquakes, windstorms and lightning. Puneet Nath, Director says, “People are thrilled by the ‘romance’ of the idea of Doomsday, despite knowing it’s not a reality. Guests can choose from drinks and finger foods named after disastrous events like Apocalypse, Grenade, Goodbye Kiss and dishes like Armageddon and End is Near. With DJ Kathy Force playing house and commercial along with resident DJs Twisted Bass and Vinit Dave, the music will be ideal to party right till the end.”
Bhuvan Narang, owner, The Little Door says they believe if you’re going out, may as well go out with a bang. “Some believe tomorrow is the last day of this earth, others say it’s all lies. We at The Little Door are not too sure. So to be safe, we’re going to be serving a round of free shot for our customers. If it’s in fact the end, we shall always be remembered as the place where you had your last shot ever,” he says in jest, adding that the club will be playing a mix of progressive, electric and commercial music.
Escobar too has a Save the World party says Vardhaman Choksi, owner who feels it’s a day to celebrate with their signature shots at a discounted rate. For Shazeb Arif, the day also happens to be his birthday and he plans to celebrate with The Blackout Festival, that combines musical acts, food events, talks, yoga and much more. “I’ve named the event, because of the blackout that’s supposed to take place on Friday. At 12am on the 21st, we will have a blackout. If the world still continues, the rest of the weekend has some interesting events lined-up such as a book launch, a video gaming campaign, a rickshawallah’s brunch with street food and a masseuse session as well,” adds Shazeb, who’s curated the event for his friends and a select few.
