Miss India’s extraordinary relationship with Bollywood

The Miss India pageant has given Bollywood many beautiful faces through 50 years of existence. The fashion and glamour industry, along with the Indian film industry have been partners in arms for some time now, however it has been the pageant that has alleviated the oomph factor in the Indian film industry. It has groomed every aspirant providing them with a platform that takes them to a different league altogether in Bollywood.
Some of the finds from the past include Nutan Bahl, Zeenat Aman, Tina Munim and Poonam Dhillon.
Actresses like Meenakshi Seshadri, Sonu Walia and Shikha Swaroop were gradual additions into Bollywood. Then there was Juhi Chawla, the Miss India winner in 1984, who’s been part of many hit films and continues to do some good work. Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai who won the Miss Universe and the Miss World titles in 1994, made grand entries into Bollywood. Aishwarya has been one of the most sought after actresses both nationally and internationally.
The year 2000 was a monumental year for Indian beauty industry. Lara Dutta won the Miss Universe, Priyanka Chopra won the Miss World and Dia Mirza won the Miss Asia-Pacific and all three soon stepped into films. Priyanka, who’s one of the top actresses today, is now dabbling in singing as well. Then, Neha Dhupia won in 2002 and is enjoying her Bollywood stint as well. And the list continues... Esha Gupta is the latest to get into movies and there are other Miss Indias too, who are also getting set to take the plunge. Are you one of them?

Pond’s Gorgeously Alive Pond’s association with Miss India runs deeper where the ex-Miss India Priyanka Chopra and Neha Dhupia were featured in the now memorable Pond’s White Beauty commercial Kabhi Kabhi Pyaar Mein along with Saif Ali Khan. This was the time when Pond’s started this
journey of an ad ‘film’ which basically gave the advertising story a Bollywood twist. Five miniepisodes were released on TV, each one revealing parts of the story bit by bit. Each episode was aired after an interval of 15 days, thereby wrapping up the whole story in a little over two months.
