New dessert fad: The cronut!

There’s a new kind of food item that’s fast gaining popularity abroad. It’s called the cronut and is a cross between the croissant and a doughnut. The dessert has quickly gained popularity and it now has its own fan page too! Created by New York pastry chef Dominique Ansel, the cronut is a layered pastry with crystallised sugar, a Tahitian vanilla-flavoured ganache and finished with a rose glaze. Fans of the sweet actually wait in front of the SoHo bakery where it’s sold, from 6 am — a whole two hours before its doors are opened. The lines even wind up around the block. Due to its demand, there were limits imposed on how many cronuts an individual could buy at a time — just three.

Cronuts, a croissant-doughnut hybrid, are reportedly selling out by the hour
