Raveena’s healthy secret

Actress and mother Raveena Tandon at a recent event in Mumbai, spoke about nutritional qualities of Riso Rice Bran Oil. “I not only endorse Riso but also use it in our cooking at home. With the kind of lifestyle and eating habits we have these days, the edible oil we use in our cooking has to offer the best in nutritional values, without compromising on taste,” she said.
‘Product of the Year’ is a global consumer recognition standard that celebrates champions and rewards the best innovations in consumer products done through an independent consumer survey across the country. Within the first year of its launch, Riso was awarded by consumers, the prestigious Product of the Year 2013 Title in the Cooking Mediums & Edible Oil Category. This 100% face-to-face independent survey is conducted by Nielsen across 18,000 respondents in 24 markets in India and is the largest survey of its kind.
Vinay Chawla, Director Kamani Oil Industries, says, “There are thousands of health conscious consumers who are adopting Riso as the sole cooking medium for their family. It is produced by the process of physical refining which helps retain the all important nutrient, oryzanol which works positively on our health."
Rice bran oil is a unique cooking oil which is a value added product produced from rice bran, a by-product of the rice milling industry. Dr.
Meena Mehta, Department of Food Science and Nutrition, SNDT University who has done extensive research on edible oils and rice bran oil in particular, said, “Rice bran oil is rich in Vitamin E complex, tocopherols and tocotrienols, a unique antioxidant known as gamma oryzanol, high quantities of phytosterols, polyphenols and squalene. Compared to other cooking oils, rice bran oil has a longer shelf life because of these antioxidants. These compounds are nutritionally very valuable and it appears to be the richest source of tocopherols and tocotrienols. Hence Rice Bran Oil not only has a good fatty acid profile, but also is a rich source of antioxidants and micronutrients.”
Adds Rajiv Behere, VP, Marketing, “Apart from the nutritutional benefits, Riso shines out the flavor of the food cooked in it. Whether you want to fry, sauté, bake, use it as salad dressing, it is perfect for all kinds of cooking. It has a very high smoke point and hence prevents breakdown at high temperatures and extends shelf life of the food cooked in it.”
