Of celebrating curves, lurrv and all the in-between
And finally we have a little bit of nip in the Mumbai air — not like a glimpse of any big freeze to come, but at least enough to pretend we're having winter now.
Along with cooler weather, comes more uplifting news for B-Town: this quarter is hardly done, but its decidedly raking in the moolah, welcome news in an overall cautious global climate, considering the general economic slowdown in Europe and overseas. Of course the current climate is such that nobody takes chances, movies are pre-sold with all sorts of rights accounted for, and it's very kosher to say there's no such thing as a 'flop' anymore, even for smaller budget films. And yet footfalls at the BO are still the perceptual benchmark for a really strong statement, and all the movies in this quarter have made theirs: from a Rockstar to a Ra.One.
And there are still two biggies to go — SRK's next of course (promotional activities not as in-your-face as his Ra offering) as well as the relatively newbie starrer from the heavyweight Yashraj stable that releases this week. Anushka and Ranveer, the two youngsters in the film forever breaking up and making up might be a ploy in selling the movie as these things go. So even if they don't end up celebrating lurrv, they're doing their best to ensure they might celebrate the movie's fate post this weekend. It's all part of the learning curve, you wisen up quick in B-Town.
As the new watchword in tinseltown did, making her 'more'-ness work for her — yep, Vidya is where it's at, in popular culture at present. The Balan 'babe' has connected with all her inner 'babeness', and in the process made love handles and the like fashionable with a vengeance. If you want to celebrate your curves (and traditionally India always has) there's no time like right now.
Meanwhile, celebrating another V, Pak import and starlet Veena Malik's curves has got a men's magazine into a spot of trouble, apart from Malik herself. The dirty picture here is supposedly her nude shot on the magazine cover, which has the lady apparently crying foul, saying it was morphed. She's reportedly sued the magazine and apparently the magazine has sued her back. Amidst all the legal wrangles, more news that her father has apparently disowned her and would want her punished if found guilty of stripping. Quite a to-do and it's only escalating daily.
And whilst on the topic of celebrating curves, year-end also points to the host of calendars which will appear for 2012 shortly, not a few of them boasting bikini bods. Sneak previews of the famed Pirelli Calendar on websites of the international press show the much-married supra model Kate Moss bare it all (with other beauties) for former flame, photographer Mario Sorrenti. Those who've had enough of the Malik mess, there's now that Moss mystique. And in all this celebration of curves and TLC (tender, loving care, get with the programme!) I had my moment of full circle on the week-end, coming face-to-face with a star, I had adored growing up, still magnetic at almost 50(?) — TC, that's Tom Cruise. At the risk of sounding corny, a week-end of not TLC, but L, TC.
