Dooriyan

Dooriyan… Yeah!

Deepshikha has been hard at work, unfortunately she's been too hard at work and the effort shows as she struggles to do justice to the screenplay, dialogues, story and direction. She does succeed as far as acting is concerned, but fails in the rest of the attempts. What promises to be an interesting premise — a divorcee and a mother of two falling in love with a younger man and dealing with an orthodox society — falls flat as she is not able to tackle the subject with the kind of maturity that the issue requires. The handling is as immature as the dialogues and the story.
The story begins with Simi (Deepshikha) having gone through an ugly divorce with hubby (Inder). She moves out with her two kids and back in with her parents. She also runs a dance academy with the support of two good friends Nikki (Chitrasi Rawat) and Bobby (Delnaz Paul). Enter Raj (Kaishav) — a young model, who's completely smitten by her. Here's how the hero must've been prepared for the role. Step one: Pick a stud-looking guy (oh, it was easy here as he happens to be dating Deepshikha). Step two: Enroll him in a gym. Step three: Enroll him in a dance class. Step four: Go shopping for clothes in your nearest Lokhandawala boutiques for clothes that scream your attitude: 'wannabe'! After falling for the oldest lines in the date book, Deepshikha is keen to marry Raj, but then steps in his Mummyji and plays the upholder of moral values of the society, who gives her a slice of reality. How Deepshikha deals with the heartbreaks and the society is what follows. Well, there's no doubt that the film raises very valid questions and tries to mirror society, unfortunately the treatment is as disappointing, as Deepshikha is in love here. Songs don't help, neither do the average performances of the rest of the cast. To Deepshikha's credit, she does deliver a good performance, but unaided by good supporting dialogues, it doesn't help the film.
