It’s not the quintessential Ramayana

…says Kushal Ruia about his unconventional animation film

In his upcoming mythological animation film Sons Of Ram, writerdirector Kushal Ruia has attempted to explore a rarely explored part of the Ramayana.
“It isn’t the quintessential Ramayana that is being played out,” says Ruia adding, “Most films dealing with this subject have been more about the battle between Ram and Ravan, where Ram's sons Luv and Kush were merely characters.”

About the two brothers, Ruia says, “We have tried to humanise these young characters by narrating a story about their lives and their feelings towards their father. Also, both of them are individualistic and have their own quirks.”
On the future of animation films in India, Executive Producer and CEO of Amar Chitra Katha, Vijay Sampath says, “It was a conscious decision to begin with a mythological film because at the end of the day, we are all Indians and that is where our roots lie. Kushal had a great vision and we have just supported him. We are hoping this sets the ball rolling for animation films in our country.”
Sons Of Ram, produced by Amar Chitra Katha, releases in 3D on November 2.
