Awards galore!
As we enter the 100th year of Indian cinema, it’s time to applaud the best in the business of Bollywood
Founded two years ago, the Zee ETC Bollywood Business Awards is the country’s only awards show that celebrates and recognises the efforts of marketers, distributors, production houses and exhibitors who contribute towards a film’s collections at the box-office along with the actors and directors.
The awards are held in high esteem in the industry because they acknowledge the landmark movies of the year. The winners represent the best work within the industry and are evaluated on the basis of revenues. These awards take into consideration the economic quotient as a cornerstone for mapping the success of a film.
Speaking about the initiative, Anurag Bedi, Business Head, Zee ETC, said, “Since 2010, we have been awarding the most successful films that are made in India, from a trade perspective. We not only believe in presenting the best actors, directors and producers with a trophy but also in felicitating people who are involved in the marketing and distributing aspects of a film.” Bedi added that the awards takes trade, business and profitability as yardsticks in deciding the success of a movie. “This initiative is our way of recognising the various people, associated with a film, who are as important as the stars. The business of filmmaking is huge today and with so many players in the market, it’s essential to identify the ones who have done phenomenal business in the year,” he elaborated.
Komal Nahta, the host of Zee ETC Bollywood Business Awards 2012, said, “For too long now, awards functions have been viewed with suspicion about favoritism. There’s no such fear about Zee ETC Bollywood Business Awards because films get awarded purely on the objective basis of the monies they make at the box-office, leaving absolutely no scope for subjectivity and, therefore, favouritism or partiality of any kind.”
He added that 2012 had been exciting as far as hit and super-hit films were concerned. “Many films have done great business, different kinds of films have worked at the box-office and, generally speaking, the bar has been raised for a wide variety of films. We are in the process of selecting the winners based on parameters which are purely and simply objective.”
