The love for cities
This year has started high on the literature note. As novelists and those related to the publishing industry gear up for the Jaipur Literature festival, Mumbai starts off with a panel discussion called, Sister Cities, as two authors HM Naqvi and Naresh Fernandes discuss the similarities between cities and their culture. HM Naqvi is an author of Home Boy. He has worked in the financial services industry, and taught creative writing at Boston University. He has won the DSC prize for South Asian Literature and the Phelam prize for poetry and is currently based in Karachi. While Naresh Fernandes is a journalist and author of Taj Mahal Foxtrot: The Story of Bombay’s Jazz Age, also the co-author of Bombay Then and Mumbai Now and the co-editor, along with Jerry Pinto, of Bombay Meri Jaan, an anthology of writing about Bombay. The session organised by Avid Learning will take place on Monday, January 7, at Good Earth, Lower Parel, 6pm. The evening will explore sister cities along the water: Karachi, Mumbai and New York.
