2013 will witness Bollywood actresses experimenting with their roles like never before

With Vidya Balan catching the nation’s imagination by
gyrating her hips to Ooh la la.. and Priyanka Chopra stuttering her way
into playing Jhilmil, our leading ladies have taken everybody by
surprise with their versatility. They have managed to overcome playing
second-fiddle to the heroes on screen and are taking up the challenge to
experiment with their roles like never before.
After playing desi girls Rajjo, Sukhmit and Paro, who were wooed by Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar respectively, Sonakshi Sinha is set to don a new avatar this year. “Now that I have made a place for myself in the industry, I am all set to experiment with my looks in Bullet Raja, that has an Indo-western feel, and in the Thuppaki remake. But, I will not shed the girl-next-door image just because everyone is doing it. I choose roles that excite me as an actor,” says Sonakshi. As for Priyanka Chopra, she will continue with the de-glam look playing a small-town girl in Zanjeer and Gunday. For Mary Kom’s bio-pic, PC will be training hard to play a boxer who won an Olympic medal for the country. Sources close to her confirm, “She consciously signs her films and keeps it as different as possible from the earlier ones.” Kangana Ranaut, who took a break from playing damsel-in-distress with Tanu weds Manu, will be seen kicking some butt in Krrish 3 and Revolver Rani. She will also be playing the mujra girl in Rajjo. “Revolver Rani is a desi Kill Bill and I love playing an Indiana Jones kind of a character. Till now I had little option, as first I had to establish myself and as a struggler I could not afford to say no even though I knew that I was being typecast,” confesses Kangana. After exploring her sensual side, Vidya Balan is all set to star in a comedy in Ghanchakkar. Deepika is also doing a turn-around by indulging in action dhamaka with Race 2 and Chennai Express, and is set to go 3D with Rajinikanth in Kochadaiyaan. Katrina Kaif, too, refused to take stunt doubles in Dhoom 3 and the remake of Tom Cruise-starrer Knight and Day. Trade analyst Komal Natha states that this trend is bound to continue and the audience should prepare themselves to see their favourite heroines donning different avatars onscreen. |
