A bevy of filmmakers are eager to work with the actress. While the warm welcome being accorded to Madhuri was expected, what remains unknown is that her husband, Dr Shriram Nene, too, is in demand in India.
Two top hospitals in Bandra and Andheri are vying to rope in Dr Nene, a cardio-thoracic surgeon, sources said. Dr Nene graduated with an MD 18 years ago and practised in Aurora, Colorado in the US, before relocating to India. He, however, must get permission from the Medical Council of India (MCI) and register himself with the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) in order to practise in India.
"Permission from the MCI is mandatory for every doctor who comes from abroad and plans to practise in India. The applicant must file an application with the MCI, which grants permission after checking the doctor's credentials by evaluating his/her documents. There is no exam for such candidates," said MCI member Dr Kailash Sharma.
"Every doctor who practises modern medicine in the state has to register himself with the MMC. After he submits an application and degree-related documents, they are checked by our committee. Only then is a doctor allowed to practise in the state," said MMC president Dr Kishor Taori.
Dr Nene remained unavailable for comment, but his close associate said that the surgeon did not wish to talk to the media till he settled down in India.
