Designers dole out a list of to dos to dress like you belong on the stands, while cheering for your favourite speed demon at the upcoming Indian Grand Prix

In a nation that is obsessed with sports, there seems to be a fair amount of enthusiasm surrounding the upcoming Formula One Indian Grand Prix, to be held in the outskirts of the Capital, later this month. And just as with any sport, there are ways to dress up like you belong on the stands.
Designer Amalraj Sengupta says that going minimalist is the key to any sporty fashion. "When it comes to F1, girls can go all out and even team up short dresses with high-heeled boots. If you are watching a cricket match, it would be best to stick to comfortable denims and a tee. But for an F1 race, you can indulge in high waist pants, tees or crisp white shirts and even carry your favourite designer bag. Internationally, F1 style is all about glamour and elegance, so a little fashion indulgence will not make you look out of place. A pony tail tied high will add to that sporty look," says Amalraj.
Designer Mandira Wirk, who has designed a couple of outfits for the grid girls, says that if you haven't yet decided whom to cheer for, while on the stands, sport the shades that the grid girls will. "It's a safe bet. Formula One is as much about glamour as it is about the speed demons. My designs for the grid girls are predominantly in shades of red and white. A hat or a cap will add to the entire look and give you a sporty edge. I've also given the grid girls wedges… they're comfortable and in tune with the trend of wedges being in this season," says Mandira.
Designer Shivaji Dutta says that one can wear their attitude on their sleeve and show their support for the races. "If you are talking cricket, wearing a jersey is the best way to show that the game is all that is constantly on your mind. But F1 is a tad bit different. The guys can stick to bright jerseys and caps but the girls can definitely play it up. Short skirts in jersey material and clingy tops in shades synonymous with that of the team you are cheering for, are the simplest ways to let your outfit speak for you," says Shivaji.
