Charmed by Kashmir!
Fashion designer Manish Malhotra talks about how his recent trip to Kashmir was the inspiration behind his newest collections
Fashion designer Manish Malhotra recently visited Kashmir, and it was not only the scenic beauty that enthralled him but also the handicrafts of the place. It was more of a work trip for Manish, who was there during the shoot of an upcoming film starring actor Ranbir Kapoor. "I was indeed mesmerised by the beauty of Kashmir. Though I didn't get much chance to explore, whatever I saw was breathtaking. It was so beautiful." he remarks.
Kashmir, known as the paradise on earth, has more to offer apart from just scenic beauty. But what fascinated Manish the most was the fabrics and all the unique handicraft works. An excited Manish says, "I have grown up watching Hindi films, especially those of the 70's and 80's, and so many of them have been shot in Kashmir. I love the clothes, the films and it was definitely in my places-to-visit list." The designer was much inspired by the art of the Kashmiris, so much so that his designs at the recently concluded fashion week reflected the same. "I didn't get much chance to explore but I did manage to check out all the handicraft works and the fabric stores. There were such beautiful fabrics and art work, that my collection at the last fashion week was inspired by them. My designs had these Kashmir borders. The embroidery work was beautiful, and the shawls were just gorgeous…," he adds.
But Manish's Kashmir connection didn't stop there. The ace designer went on to hire a number of Kashmiri artistes, who are going to work with him in future projects, and will bring onboard the whole kashmiri feeling to his designs.
