Speculation is rife that Deepika Padukone and her Ram Leela co-star Ranveer Singh are seeing each other. There have been reports of them spending a lot of time together on and off the sets of the film. But Deepika brushes aside the rumour saying that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a perfectionist and they (Ranveer and she) are doing a lot of workshops together to prepare for their roles. “It’s weird that people are making more out of it. I guess when you are doing a love story, and you are seen spending time together, one would naturally assume that there’s something more to that,” she says, adding that currently she is completely focussed on work. “I am busy with three projects and I have no time for anything else,” she says, flashing her dimples.
The actress, however, is more forthcoming about her relationship with ex-beau Ranbir Kapoor, who is now her “perfect friend”. “Ranbir and I have always been good friends. It’s the media that assumed there would be awkwardness between us (after the break-up),” says Deepika, who is paired with him in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. “After Bachna Ae Haseeno, I felt incomplete. I thought we needed to do a full film with each other. Ayan (director Ayan Mukherji) knows us really well, and I couldn’t have asked for a better film for Ranbir and me to come together,” smiles Deepika.
She is also excited about Race 2, which will see her in an action mode. She’s especially proud of a major car chase sequence which has her at the wheel with Saif Ali Khan by her side. “Saif has to get out of the car in the middle of the scene for some reason, which I cannot reveal now. So, I was responsible for not only my life but someone else’s life too. Besides being physically fit, I had to mentally also be all there,” reveals the leggy beauty. However, since she’s been an athlete, who digs into adventurous and sporty things, she didn’t need to prep much.
As for reports of her angling for a role opposite Salman Khan in his forthcoming film Kick, Deepika says that though she would love to work with the Dabangg star, currently she is concentrating on films that she is committed to. “My hands are full till June,” she clarifies.
