SHOWS THAT WENT THROUGH LEAPS IN RECENT TIMES

TV back to taking time leaps

Television serials have taken the fast forward route, more often than not, in recent times. After all the twists and turns and a heavy dose of drama following actors quitting shows, TV soaps are now looking at various ways to hold audience attention.
Leaps are generally used to take the story forward and break the monotony of the current track by introducing new faces and of course, high voltage drama. Audiences now will get to see a six-month jump in Pavitra Rishta, a five-year fastforward in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Kya Huaa Tera Vaada goes ahead about 15 years while Ek Veer Ki Ardaas — Veera takes a five-year leap.

This device introduces fresh faces to the audience. Producer Rajan Shahi of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai says, “Leaps happen for different reasons. Sometimes, it is done to give a fresh lease of life to the show or to develop new interest and curiosity in the show.”
Most actors hate the idea of leaps as they are forced to grow old. While some grudgingly continue with their shows, others quit. Sushant Singh Rajput left Pavitra Rishta when it went through a leap last time. Eva Grover opted out of Bade Acche Lagte Hain for the same reason. Darshan Pandya of Kya Huaa Tera Vaada, who won’t be seen in the show post-leap says, “My character is coming to an end. I am not comfortable with leaps either.”
