Ajay-Prabhudheva to team up this July
In the Bollywood dream factory, there are a hundred proposals discussed each day and only a handful of truly exciting announcements coming in. However, even if you are the cynical “oh-God-what’s-new-about-this-one’’ type, you can still feel a certain energy when you hear that two commercially sound talents will come together this monsoon. Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn will team up with South import Prabhudheva for a project produced by Baba Films, the guys who made fun cinema like Ishq (1997) with Aamir Khan, Ajay, Kajol and Juhi Chawla and Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha (1998) with the husband-wife duo, Ajay-Kajol.The fine print on the Ajay-Prabhu project still remains hazy. But one knows that the film will go on floors in July 2013, perhaps a new girl or a pretty Bollywood siren will come on board and the script is not a remake of any South film as was earlier suggested by trade gup.
To just say that Prabhu is gung ho about this project is stating the obvious. The curly-haired director, who has worked with the He-Men Salman Khan (Wanted, 2008) and Akshay Kumar (Rowdy Rathore, 2012), is palpably excited to direct Ajay. He says, “Every filmmaker has a wish list at the back of his head on the kind of films he wants to make and the actors he’d like to associate with. Of course, every project you dream of doesn’t take off. But this film with Ajay is something that has been on my mind since a long time. I think he was filming Singham then and I was doing Rowdy Rathore when Gordhan Tanwani and Ajhai Acharya (our producers) first suggested that Ajay and I should team up. One year later, here I am with the two Ajays. The happy feeling is an indication that you are on the right track.’’
For Devgn, who will return from his vacation in London in the first week of July, Prabhu’s film is the perfect incentive to return to the studios after a break. “When you have 20 years behind you, you wake up each morning and scout for projects that make you feel, ‘yes that’s the one I want to do.’ Prabhu’s film has that effect on me. I guess we are on the right path.’’
He smiles mysteriously and adds, “It’s not a remake. I can’t name the heroine right now, though we have a fair idea who it will be. Neither of us is moving away from our comfort zone. The film we are toying with is an entertainer with the required doses of action, comedy and high-drama. Let me sign off here or else I’ll be giving away classified information that is the prerogative of the producers.’’
Well, well...
Ajay Devgn
Prabhudheva
