Bhabho in
Diya Aur Baati Hum

MATRIARCH

Bhabho, played by Neelu Waghela, calls the shots in the Rathi family. She wears the pants in the family and everybody follows her diktat, including her dear hubby. She is a tyrant, who commands respect from one and all. She ensures she has the last say in almost everything. She is a perfectionist and forgives no mistake easily.

Rajshri in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai

AUTHORITATIVE

Mataji, played by Jayati Bhatia, is an authoritarian in the literal sense of the word. Her decision is considered final by the Bharadwaj family. She doesn’t believe in injustice and expects people to follow her rules and ideologies.

Sweety in
Parvarrish — Kuchh Khatti Kuchh Meethi

BALLISTIC

Shweta Tiwari’s character, Sweety, is bitter-sweet. She shoots from her hip and reacts to a situation even before it has occurred. What matters to her is her viewpoint. She believes she is always right. A possessive mom, she wants to decide on her children’s behalf and breathes down their neck.

Megha in Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha

VULNERABLE

Rajshri Maheshwari, played by Lataa Sabharwal, is a simple housewife whose priority is her family. Even the slightest hint of trouble in her children’s lives gives her sleepless nights. She panics at the drop of a hat and is coy and demure. Rajshri
loves her daughter Akshara the most and becomes extremely vulnerable whenever problems plague her.

Maasa in Balika Vadhu

PROGRESSIVE

Surekha Sikri aka Maasa has come a long way from blindly supporting her sons to understanding the needs and desires of her bahus. Her ideologies have metamorphosed and she has softened towards the often ignored lot of daughters-in-law, particularly Anandi. What was considered a taboo earlier is suddenly of prime importance to her — including Anandi’s education to getting her remarried.

Sunaina in Aaj Ki Housewife Hai — Sab Jaanti Hai

VENOMOUS

Sunaina Chaturvedi’s (played by Himani Shivpuri) favourite pastime is to spew venom. The dominating saas likes to make snide remarks at her daughter-in-law. The greedy and self-centered Sunaina hates to see the growing proximity between her son Kanhaiya (Anirudh Dave) and Sona (Suhashi Dhami). Someone to look down upon her bahu all the time, she doesn’t even spare her son the sarcasm.

Mataji in
Sasural Simar Ka

NEW-AGE YASHODA Megha Vyas (Aakanksha Singh) is caring, not only towards her biological children but also her husband’s child, who was born out
of their wedlock. She can do anything for her children. She didn’t even hesitate to leave the love of her life for their sake.
