Tabu and Bebo are Bollywood’s most glamorous sisters
There are some 55-plus heroes in Bollywood, who have sensibly opted to play father — on screen —- to youngsters like Sonam Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor, among others. These heroes (can’t name them) keep lamenting that actresses are not willing to play their wives in the movies, because no A-lister wishes to play mother to a Salman Khan or Shah Rukh Khan. Fair enough.
For example, Sarika was aghast when they suggested she play Akshay Kumar’s mother in a film. Juhi Chawla has also reportedly refused some mummy roles.
However, now, there are a list of actresses who are ready to stick their pretty necks out and play behna to some of our industry hunks...if not maa.
Tabu is playing Salman’s sister in Mental. And now, we hear Kareena Kapoor, after an aborted attempt to play Ranveer Singh’s love interest in Ram Leela, is toying with the idea of being his sister in Zoya Akhtar’s next.
Vidya Balan, who is willing to take up any challenge, is one of the recent actresses to show the way. She played Amitabh Bachchan’s mother in Paa with aplomb and even walked away with the awards. After all, it’s just role play...
