Parveen Babi inspires international music video

It’s not just Bollywood directors who are getting inspired by yesteryear siren Parveen Babi. Popular Australian singer Iggy Azalea’s latest song Bounce sees her dressed in Indian ensembles like lehenga cholis and saris, and her stylist admits to being inspired by Babi for it. While Iggy takes the interpretation of Bollywood to a whole new level in this video shot in Mumbai, stylist Alejandra Hernandez has been quoted by a website as saying that she was very inspired by ‘Parveen Babi in her films’. “She was such an Indian bombshell. The costumes in the 60s and 70s were so next level. For the video, we wanted to be traditional and respectful to the culture…”
Iggy’s also got company from Selena Gomez, whose latest song Come And Get It (which premiered this week) is also Bollywood-inspired. The song opens with the notes of the tabla, with several Indian musicians playing the instrument. Selena also performs mujra in the video (the same moves she had displayed on stage during an awards ceremony a few months ago).
