In Dibakar Banerjee’s Shanghai, Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee gets ‘killed’ 11 times in different ways and places

Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee who plays a political leader in director Dibakar Banerjee’s upcoming thriller Shanghai, has managed to do the impossible. The actor will be seen dying almost a dozen deaths, literally.
Prosenjit Chatterjee in a still from Shanghai “In the film, I get killed 11 times — every time in a different mode, with a different pattern, and at a different place,” says Prosenjit, who was last seen in Bollywood over two decades ago in Veerta (1991).
Ask him about this bizarre twist in the plot and he explains, “Actually, the film shows 11 people who have seen me getting murdered and what they explain to the police are independent incidences. So I had to shoot the death sequences according to each person’s version. It was a fresh experience, but quite horrific.”
Banerjee’s long-awaited political thriller also stars actor Abhay Deol, Emraan Hashmi and Kalki Koechlin in pivotal roles. And though Prosenjit may have a relatively small part, he insists that the whole film is centred around his character. “The film actually takes off from my on-screen death. My character’s there all through the film — sometimes in real time, somtimes in flashbacks.”
The actor, who has ruled the marquee of Bengali cinema for three generations, adds that he’s open to Bollywood. “I have done all kinds of roles in Bengali films. I am ready to do Hindi or even Marathi films if I am offered a proper role,” he says.
Apart from the film’s promo, which is trending on social networking sites, even the songs, especially one named Pareshaan, has caught on everywhere. Bipasha claims she loves the song so much that she’s been playing it on a loop in her car every day. She even took to Twitter to wish her ‘dear friend’ Arjun good luck for his debut. Aww, I wish him luck too!
Hahahahha. I can’t stop laughing at this one.
Sandra from Bandra
left her suburban villa to go shopping yesterday. She went to the most lavish mall in Lower Parel and entered a popular high street store, only to find
there, fuelling her fashionista needs.
Being a Sunday, there were quite a few people around, and most seemed to know who the lass in polka dots was, but no one was in the mood to give her any attention.
So much to Sandra’s amusement, Sonam went around the store strutting her stuff, making it even more visible to people that she was there. Tut tut. Even big stars have to resort to such gimmicks now. After all, such is life dearies.
